Those of us who have been around the block more than a few times have seen a marked decline in the level of service and quality of the product the resort is dishing out.
People here are quick to defend the mountain and justify issues on weather etc. but there was a time when park crew was in the park all day tuning things up. There was a half pipe, grooming was excellent and the whole front side was opened up in a timely matter on a pow day not this BS where the West side is roped off until 10:30.
Sure the mountain's a blast and we should all just get out and have fun but for some of us it's frustrating knowing what could be with a little more effort on the part of management and listening to the front line staff instead of firing them...
No person who actually is a client and skier at Mt Wash could actually declare that the terrain is open in minutes. The previous comments made regarding the patrol are exactly the same comments I have heard from former and current patrol. If anything my beef is that the only form of avi control is bomb until it goes. Last Saturday the Boom opened at 11.30 on the busiest day of the year, with a small overnight snowfall of 15. Again one of the challenges with this mountain is the fact that temperatures warm quickly in the am. Getting the terrain open quickly is critical to the enjoyment of the snow. Yet for years the Mt Wash management or maybe it is the incompetence of the patrol management have failed to get the back side open quickly. It's not nicknamed the noonerang for nothing. If Mt Wash was serious about providing a top quality experience they would hire and retain more competent patrollers who could clear terrain across the mountain at the same time. But the mountain is cheap and don't really care so, I guess we have what we have until the hill is sold to someone who cares.
No gripes or criticisms here...I was up on Monday, Feb. 20...and it was fantastic! Mountain grooming has really improved over the last few years, staff are awesome, and Fresh Cafe is the place to eat...yummy cinnamon buns. Just glad I bought a Mid-Week pass, and don't have to pay the day rate...from now until the end of the season, I'm skiing for free!! :)
Those that think the patrol A/C at Mt Washington are not qualified should check their facts. Some of the a/c crew have been skiing at Mt Washington since opening day and have all of the required tickets, courses, even degrees and more...If people want to spread news they should at least do it with the correct information. I understand a concern for safety issues to be raised but lets not stoop to slander and false information. Move on, enjoy life, and get out and rip up some turns. Ski cause you love the snow not the B.S.
I'm all for Mt Washington, but 2 things come to mind this year:
1. A one day lift ticket is like $76 at Mt. Wash. With an Edge card Whistler is only $88. Either Whistler is cheap or Mt Wash is expensive?
2. I'm pretty open minded when it comes to fast food etc, but the food at Mt Wash this year seems really terrible. What gives? I don't remember it being this bad in prior years?
I agree with other reviewers, either be a cheap local hill or up the game. May be if they were to publish a 5 or 10 year resort plan it may help to keep ppl interested and see what their $76 is going to - either future capital investment or just all profit for the owner...
Other than that, it's still great skiing with minimal lift lines most of the time.
Mt Washington should really get their act together.
Either be a "local" community based hill and reduce prices, mellow out and give back to your community for a change...
OR-
Be a "corporate" mega-resort style hill with actual services, a grooming program that works, a terrain park and some expansion instead of just recycling old terrain and making a hundred more intersections on the trails.
So let's begin by clearing up a few things...
I haven't had to wait more then a few minutes this year for openings even on the deepest powder days, seems to me that the AC teams are doing an excellent job!
The park is awesome. To you people commenting on that topic, pick up a rake and put some work in. Talk to the park crew about options and possibilities, don't comment on here like a pansy grow a pair and speak up.
Congratulations Mount Washington, for sucking the poison out of the wound. Keep up the great work, and for those of you who feel unsafe, I'm sure management will happily take your uneducated, disrespectful, deranged comments and pass them on to the appropriate personnel. Or there is the option to ski elsewhere too! Better yet don't ski at all!

Wow, kind of makes you raise your eyebrow and wonder why anyone would get fired for raising safety concerns. I sure don't feel safe skiing there now knowing that this is going on. Especially knowing there is still half of a season still ahead of us. Every time I go up there, it seems like one big happy family as everyone has smiles on their faces, Thanks Concerned skier for the inside scoop, I am right there with you!
Yes, the paid patrol department has had issues. It is not as safe anymore. One should take extra cautions in avalanche terrain when poor trained or lack of trained personnel are managing these areas. It is a real concern that should not be discredited. Things happen within in-bound areas when poorly managed, controlled or evaluated. Do not trust the assessments or your personal care. This is one of those departments that an owner of the Mt should go undercover in to see how the risks, liabilities and first aid cares are being handled. Someone should start a web page like 'ski patrollers wronged by Mt Washington'. There is a similar page out there already from Sunshine Village resort for very similar reasons. Sunshine fired 12 patrollers for them voicing concerns and doing their jobs. They challenged also and were terminated. Google it,,, very similar.
