Fantastic start to the snow season on the mountain. Last time I saw coverage of the mountain this good was back in 1996. Low density snow has been a gift from the gods for the past three years..thankyou. Definitely off to a solid season of riding the snow provided by the winter storms from the Aleutians.

Money, ahh! Now we know what the answer is. Maybe all the pass holders should pay at the end of the year or in instalments. Imagine if Mt washington actually had to care or worry about keeping us happy? A revolution I tell ya! There are no snow management problems, there is no grooming problem, there is no food service problem, there is no ski school or rental problem, there is only one problem. They own the hill, there is no competition ( nature abhors a vacuum) and they want to make as much money as possible. Instead of investing in manpower or modernized equipment/ facilities they want to maximize profit; perfectly reasonable as they take the risk. The problem lies in the fact that there is an unspoken promise that they will offer the best product possible. Lets imagine a snow management team that actually knew what it was doing or had adequate resources. It would mean that there would be three teams who started simultaneously and had the whole mountain open by 9.30. The only reason this is not possible is money. They think it costs too much to approach terrain management in this manner. I would suggest that if they became known for early and all-terrain openings that the additional operational cost would be recouped through additional revenue. Seems simple. Really invest and reap rewards, that's what ya call well managed capitalism. Yes, this is a whine but I will throw this down.....if you think you can compare terrain management as comparable to Whistler, you are far dumber then I am currently giving you credit. We have a well tread area that needs ski cutting and not much more other then the North bowl, which is not controlled. So it comes down to money. Spend it, I say, on avi control and people will appreciate it and I can almost guarantee that the pittance they pay the poor souls who are working in that department will be returned from grateful clients. I hope that snow forecast put this whole letter on the machine as I believe many people feel this way but are so battered and tired of the complete lack of modern management of the hill. Of course, the quality of the snow and amount really have nothing to do with management and I don't think anyone really can expect Mt Wash to actually take credit for mama nature. powwow
We want the full season, we want all the options, we've already paid for it, we deserve it. The reason the boom isn't open, money. Two liftees and their supporting staff. The reason the park side of the cross-country trails are not open, money. Grooming costs being the main component in this equation. [note from the editor: names of individuals are omitted from reviews. The review has also been edited for the sake of relevance.]

Don't complain, do not ask questions, nod your head in agreement. I will once again hope for the best and expect the worst. I can already tell that there have been no changes in managerial attitude, so why bother? For those of you who want to get worked up about the lack of terrain being opened or who question the snow management skills of the mountain, don't. You know nothing despite 20 + years of touring and big mountain skiing. If you talk to a wall and it acts like a wall.... well what did you expect?

Tuesday Dec 4th, first signifigant snow fall of the year: 35 cm. Stood in the lift line for 45 minutes before being told to go to a different chair. Dropped the ball again. Things will never change when you are the only game in town. Turned into a great day but hate the delays that are all to common on Mt. Washington. Just get used to it.

Great mountain for every thing to do with skiing or boarding: powder, lifts, ok food (could be healthier and more verity but nice!) But don't even get me started on the park crew who don't seem to have any idea what they are doing this year or last! Same features, same place. Not changing anything with no progression, it's too easy or full-on (can't take new trick and build it up!) They need someone with some creativity to get involved. Knowing most of the people riding there it's a common discussion. Its like the park crew grab something random and stick it in the snow with no thought. Would be nice this year to see some change and actually building or using the features they say they have on their site and using the whole run. Lets just hope they put the Red Bull park back in by the Whiskey Jack (properly the best part!) It's funny they don't try a bit harder with the park as nearly every kid rides it or wants to at some point and they are the future of the mountain... just saying.

Reading through these reviews I notice a huge amount of them saying that Mount Washington has 0 concern for customer service, we are dispassionate, etc. etc..... when the Boomerang doesn't get opened on a monster powder day, it is because for the amount of patrol, there is a huge amount of terrain to do avalanche control on. These same people who seem to think there is some kind of conspiracy against them have just experienced bad luck, plain and simple. As much as you guys want to complain, I'm sure poaching a few front side powder runs in the trees is preferable to getting caught in an avalanche because we opened an unsafe area. I know this will not really sink in because you all seem to be rather irate, but those are the facts. Cheers
