Thursday rocked. 30+ cm of powder and boom opened at 9:30. Thanked a patrol and he humbly said it was due to good snow and the early day light. Thanks anyway guys you are all doing a great job this season and the avalanche team is getting it done this year. Interesting point was made that the avalanche patrol cant be on the slopes till it is light out due to restraints from Work Safe. The red coats love skiing as much as the rest of us and I am sure they would love to get things cracking asap but they get bogged down by paper work just like you and me I guess. Any ways thanks dudes for a stellar day. Remember to that the red coats start the avalanche shift at 5:00 and 6:30 when we are still in bed dreaming of the pow to come and they do it for the love of shredding certainly not the minimum wage..
I have been a Mt Washington customer for 20yrs. and have seen most of the service complaints that are aired on this website. What baffles me is that instead of trying to address concerns or shortcomings, Mt Washington seems to engage in an ongoing spin campaign on this website using a multitude of names. To lend some credibility to your complaints or kudos, how about stating whether you have any affiliation (employee, owner, etc.) with Mt. Washington. I f you don't state any affiliation, then I think we can all speculate pretty accurately who you are representing :). I'll go first: I do not and never have been employed or have any financial interest in Mt. Washington... I am a paying customer.
Well, there we were, right at the top of Stovepipe Chutes. Dirt took Timmy's Crack Traverse and I launched my fatties into Papas Pipe. This was earlier in December when it was already thrashed. We managed to sneak away unscathed. Dad's run has been so pounded lately I'm getting a little emotional. Leave the Dads alone! Go to Suns run if you can't really bust a nut on Dads glades. We'd really appreciate it. The Dad hunters!

It is highly unfortunate that this forum has become dumping ground for derranged ex-staff members in a futile last attempt to make themselves feel important.
Lets all look at the facts together:
1. Mount Washington is awesome
2. Skiing is awesome
3. This season has been awesome
4. No one wants to hear your negativity.
If it relates to public experience, then post it. If its the truth - post it. But no one wants to hear about a flash back you had about avalanche control in the 80's. Please - as a favor to us all. Educate yourselves. Talk to the staff. Write a letter. Make a phone call. But if you are still finding it difficult to ski this mountain without getting a huge hate-on for it then please, keep it off this forum.
There are 2 reasons Mount Wash gets tracked out so fast:
Number one: It's a ski hill. Don't go to a ski hill and expect a mountain experience or to get endless fresh turns.
Number two: Fat skis have made it possible for anyone who can stand up to ski powder by reason of the fact that they keep you on top of the snow rather than in it, which some would say defeats the point of skiing powder.
Here's two solutions:
Number one: Ban fat skis.
Number two: Get off your arse and go ski touring.
We love Mount Washington, and we will keep coming back.
I'd like to explain the "noonerang" concept to the haters out there.
Unfortunately, the general skiing public don't see all the factors that might conspire to a delayed opening. A bunch of different departments all contribute to timely openings. Transport has to get the crews up, Lifties have to get the corrals and ramps going, the lift mechanics get the bullwheels spinning, and patrol does avie control/t-boggan cheks.
All these folks do their jobs as best they can. Delays happen. Busses break down, staff don't show up, transformers blow, and most of all it freggen dumps here thus complicating all of the above.
Not saying that delays are ok, but it's not the folks in the trenches fault. They're here to get you up that hill and down again safely.
Overall, Mt Washington is an over-priced, below-average ski hill that is blessed with lots of snow that is tracked out too quickly because of the limited terrain and high numbers of skiers.
Locally, we call it a half-day hill because it's only worth that. Unfortunately, it has big hill prices which is insulting because the terrain is little more than a hill in Ontario - but in BC..
That's not to say you can't have fun here and for sure, there are some good days but there are way more average ones and the prices stink no matter how good the snow is because the terrain is so mediocre.
If you live on Vancouver Island you probably ski here because you don't know there's a better option at Mt Cain and if you plan on travelling and spending your hard-earned vacation, don't bother.
Thanks to the lift staff for ensuring full chairs over the busy holiday season. Their job looked exhausting and they took some abuse.
I wanted to mention a safety issue. My daughter fell in the middle of a busy carpet tube partly due to the slick surface. Staff initially couldn't see or hear me yelling due to the crowds. There was a bit of a pile-up, but no injuries. Could microphones be installed inexpensively? Could the belt surface be made more tacky?
In response to a response to my previous review. I only complain here because I know management reads this and I want the best for Mt. Washington. I'm invested here. I own a place, bring friends/family up who spend money, part of my strata fees go to Mt. Washington marketing, and I buy tickets. I have friends, and in particular, families who won't ski due to the cost. I fell in love with skiing on Washington as a boy on family trips and I want other families to have the same experience. The future of the mountain is largely dependent on that.
I'm not against carpets - they're great for absolute beginners. But I don't think 4 were necessary with 3 staff each. Also, I don't think that parents training their child on the carpets should have to pay for 2 tickets.
I like how Apex doesn't charge for children under 8. They understand that for every young child there is at least one parent supporting the mountain.
Adult tickets are up an average of 4.8% per year over the last 3 years. Any rate above wage growth and inflation is not sustainable.
