Glencoe mountain is the BEST resort in Scotland for many reasons. The resort is run by dedicated mountaineers and skiers/boarders who share the same love and enthusiasm for the mountain and want to ensure the best possible skiing/riding experience for everybody. Prices are very reasonable and have not increased over the years even though the facilities have greatly improved. A new restaurant/cafe area has been built on the base and future developments are under way, also the resort is now open for summer sports.
The resort is very popular with freeride/skiers due to its easy lift served access to off-piste terrain. Glencoe has the best snow record in Scotland. When it dumps it really is the place and the relaxed piste bashing during dumps also adds to great powder days all over the mountain as most of the runs remain fairly ungroomed except the beginner slopes. If you are a beginner, the conditions may prove quite difficult, but if you are serious about improving your technique, Glencoe is the proving ground. The weather can go from extreme wind chill, huge dumps to bluebird and sunny calm in the same day. Be prepared and bring some layers and a backpack.
The best thing is, even when it dumps, the mountain is generally not busy, The longest I've ever had to wait for the lift at absolute bustling times was about 3-4 minutes. It's very easy to meet other people and ski/ride in groups as you will most likely see the same people most of the day. Everyone is friendly and relaxed. There is no attitude towards skiers/boards/newbies/old and young etc, everybody is just having a good time and the atmosphere is peaceful and welcoming, unlike some other resorts in Scotland.
Glencoe is also located in one of most scenic areas in Britain and is only 1 1/2 hour drive away from the nearest city/airport Glasgow with frequent bus services to the ski centre via Glasgow bus station which makes it ideal for travelling via public transport, even in a remote area. The landscape is beautiful, baron, peaceful, remote and wild. It reminds me of Middle Earth from the Lord of the Rings. The sky at night is just amazing and clear and gives opportunity to see unspoilt views of the Milky Way.
Glencoe is not a big sprawling resort, There are very little amenities outside of the resort except ones provided by local hotels which also play host to most nightlife and entertainment at night. Do not let this disappoint you though. The local bars and restaurants are great and have a welcoming friendly atmosphere. If you want to sample Scottish drinks and food there are plenty of options. The nearest hotel/bar/restaurant away from the resort is Kings House which is only 5 minutes drive or 15 minute walk away from the resort. It seems far but you can see the hotel from the resort and the access road to the resort is the longest part of the walk. I would recommend this hotel if you are travelling via public transport, but rumour is the resort is building on-site accommodation which will be open next season and extend the opening hours of the resort bar/restaurant until late.
So overall in summary, big powder dumps, on and off-piste with easy access, cheap prices, friendly atmosphere, no queues, good access and beautiful unspoilt scenery and serenity. I felt I had to write this review as I do not think the resort is praised enough and I hope this review has been of help to those still unsure on whether to make the journey up. Check the weather forecast a week or two in advance and go there.
Just love the coe (Glencoe Mountain Resort) when it's in condition. Been up a couple of times this year and experienced some of the best conditions I've ever seen in Scotland; last week was truly immense! The place is old school and a bit rough round the edges but it just makes it a better experience. Simply stunning views, into the bargain.
I love the Coe! - It's dramatic location, it's skiing in the raw and always reminds me of a trip to Arapahoe Basin in 1990 - its not groomed perfection, its a cult trip for real skiers in real mountains...
Long may it survive... with a little investment to improve the uplift maybe... but lets not spoil it!

Only been the once to Glencoe (Glencoe Mountain Resort) but it won't be the last. Good snow and quiet challenging pistes.
Staff were very friendly (Glenshee should perhaps consider employing a similar approach)
Will be back very soon !!
Visited Glencoe Mountain Resort for the first time Feb 23rd 2010, absolutely breathtaking. Snowboarding as it should be, as nothing is as exhilarating as snowboarding on what feels like a mountain, as opposed to perfectly groomed pistes. The views surpass all other resorts I have visited. Spent hours off-piste in feet of powder, not another skier in sight!
Never skied in Scotland before but spent 1 day at Glencoe Mountain Resort this week. Absolutely fantastic; very quiet but great skiing and lovely scenery.

We ski one or two weeks in Europe and 10 or 15 days in Scotland every year but it's always a pleasure to go to Glencoe (Glencoe Mountain Resort), alone or with my children. We don't expect immaculate Alpine grooming and easy, flattering motorway pistes because this is a real mountain without the rough edges polished away. The nicest bunch of staff plus the best natured customers give the place a great feeling too. The ticket price is great value as you'll get loads more time actually skiing / boarding without the huge queues you often get at the bigger ski centres in Scotland. Great views everywhere with runs like Etive Glades and the Spring far away from ski lifts and other eyesores and I still haven't found a steeper, more exhilarating marked run than the short, sharp and stunning Fly paper, anywhere in Europe let alone Scotland.
Glencoe rocks. :)
Glencoe Mountain Resort is simply brilliant. The weather and conditions is not always great but this is Scotland after all and if they could control the weather I'm sure they would!! On a good day Glencoe can rival anywhere. Recently bought over, it has great friendly and helpful staff and the best banter and atmosphere you will find anywhere in Scotland. At £30 for a full day it's better than a couple of hours on an indoor slope. A lot of people prefer the roughness and natural feel to Glencoe. I've spent some of the best days of my life there hopping over rocks and heather and flying over ice. On a bluebird powder day there is truly nowhere else I would rather be.
Glencoe Mountain Resort is a bit of a rip off. At £30, it's the most expensive resort in Scotland but you don't get much for it. Their weather reports are misleading or just plain false - good conditions were promised, however, we arrived to find sparse, patchy snow with rocks and blocks of ice everywhere. Very badly maintained. Staff were speeding around the narrow runs on quad bikes without regard to skiers/boarders and at great risk to children.
These conditions might be preferable to some people but it wasn't for us.

I've skied for over 40 years all over Scotland, Europe & Canada but some of the best day's skiing I've had have been at Glencoe (Glencoe Mountain Resort) and it's less than 2 hours from home. Don't expect many comforts, piste marking, piste maintenance or customer service but no matter; the "wild skiing" is by far the best in Scotland. One of the great things about The Fly Paper, apart from it's steepness, is that it's nowhere near any uplift - not a lift in sight!
