Valle Nevado in Chile Has Now Extended Its 2026 Season By More Than A Month

Chile's Valle Nevado have announced they will extend skiing and snowboarding through to November 8th following an October storm that delivered 105cm (42.5 inches) in 48 hours, setting up the longest ski season in the resort’s 38-year history.

The extension will give Valle Nevado a 143-day season, from its June 19 opening through Nov. 8. The resort had originally planned to close Oct. 18, itself an extension on the original date.

The latest storm brings Valle Nevado’s 2026 season snowfall total to nearly 7 metres (271.7 inches, or nearly 23 feet), well above the 230 inches the resort typically receives in a winter.

The combination of late-season snowfall, Valle Nevado’s high elevation and south-facing terrain has helped maintain strong snow coverage well into the Southern Hemisphere spring.

“This has been an extraordinary season for Valle Nevado, and receiving more than three and a half feet of snow in October is an incredible way to keep it going,” said Dominique Rudloff, general manager of Valle Nevado. “We opened on June 19, and operating through November 8 will give us 143 days of skiing. It is unprecedented for Valle Nevado to remain open this late in the year.”

It had been thought Valle Nevado would be the only ski area open in the Andes from next week but its neighbour El Colorado, as well as Corralco, which is posting the world's current deepest base at nearly 5 metres (200"), have also announced season extensions, although so far only a week in their cases.

Late-season operations at Valle Nevado through Nov. 8 will be geared toward day visitors, as Valle Nevado’s hotels have closed for the season. Skier services at Plaza La Góndola, including rentals, lockers, ticketing, guest services, retail and the clinic, will remain available. Select restaurants and services will also continue operating. The Gondola, Andes Express, Prado, Candonga and Vaivén lifts are expected to operate, subject to mountain and weather conditions.
