Weekly Snow News for Europe, updated 9 April 2026: Spring warmth hits Alps with +20°C valleys, while Scandinavia stays wintry with 30cm (12") fresh snow.

Austria Snow Report
Austrian resorts saw their heaviest snowfalls of the season in late March and early April, with up to 1.5m (5 feet) falling over seven days, although much arrived after many areas had already closed. The past week has been more unsettled but warmer, with valley temperatures reaching +20°C and freezing levels rising to 2,000–2,500m. Snowfall has been limited to higher terrain and glaciers. About 10% of higher resorts remain open. Hintertux Glacier (30/305cm / 12/122”) has reached a 3m base, the deepest in Austria this season.

Sunny, spring-like conditions dominate with freezing levels around 2,200–2,600m. Light snow showers are possible on higher slopes, while lower areas see rain and continued thaw.
France Snow Report
Following major snowfall last week, with over 1m (40") accumulated on high terrain, conditions have turned drier and sunnier across French resorts. France continues to report the deepest snowpack in Europe, with resorts like Les 2 Alpes (60/360cm / 24/146”) and Val Thorens (220/285cm / 88/114”) maintaining excellent coverage. Many major resorts remain open into late April or May. Most areas still report 80–95% terrain open.

Spring conditions persist with sunshine and rising freezing levels around 2,400–2,800m. Significant snowfall of 20–40cm (8–16") is possible early next week on higher slopes.

Italy Snow Report
Italy has seen less recent snowfall, although northern and western regions did receive some accumulations. The past week has been dominated by sunshine and warm temperatures. More than half of Italian resorts remain open, although many closed after Easter. Cervinia (36/138cm / 14/55”) continues to offer extensive terrain thanks to its link with Zermatt.

Switzerland Snow Report
Swiss resorts saw some of Europe’s biggest late-season snowfalls, with up to 1.5m recorded in places like Engelberg. Spring conditions have now returned, with freezing levels rising to 2,000–3,000m and thawing below high alpine terrain. The 4 Valleys and Zermatt/Cervinia offer the most terrain, around 300km.

Sunny weather continues with freezing levels at 2,300–2,700m. Up to 40cm (16") of new snowfall is possible on higher terrain early next week.

Pyrenees Snow Report
he Pyrenees still report some of their deepest snow cover in years, but most resorts, including Grandvalira (290/350cm / 116/140”), will close this weekend. Warm, sunny conditions with freezing levels above 3,000m have led to widespread thawing. Cauterets is among the few resorts expected to stay open longer.

Scandinavia Ski Season Update and Snow Forecast
Scandinavian resorts remain firmly wintry, with 20–30cm (8–12") of fresh snowfall reported last weekend and consistently cold temperatures. Åre (60/120cm / 24/48”) still has around 95% of its terrain open, with most resorts continuing operations into late April or May.

Eastern Europe Snow Report
Eastern Europe has maintained more wintry conditions than the Alps, with continued snowfall delivering 10–20cm (4–8") accumulations. Resorts such as Bansko and Jasna remain open, although most areas are closing for the season this weekend.

Scotland Snow Report
Scotland’s strong 2025/26 season continues, with Cairngorm and Glencoe still offering skiing following fresh snowfall over Easter. Despite some storm disruption, conditions have remained good, with clear weather returning this week.
