Wagrain. Only 50 minutes from Salzburg airport. I took my two 12 year old boys and their friend here in February half term 2025. We had a great time. The first thing is the pistes are immaculately groomed. The lift system is very modern and we did not face any really long queues all week. Longest time waiting was maybe 5 minutes on a couple of occasions. Most of the time we just skied on to the lift. And for half term that was good. Lots of mountain restaurants (85+) to choose from. The skiing is varied and the ski over to Zauchensee is a must! You feel like you are on a journey and not sliding up and down pistes next to each other. For beginners the Grafenberg area is perfect. There are good blue runs to progress onto as you improve. All serviced with 6 or8 person chair lifts (heated).
We took on the 12 Peak Trophy and achieved it in one day which is very doable, even with lunch. Make sure you go to the food hall by the lumberjack lift. Lots to food to choose from around the world. The Aprés skiing can be found at the bottom of the Grafenberg lifts in the Kuhbergalm or the bottom of the flying Mozart lift in the kuhstall.
In the evening it’s possible to get free entry in to water world. Indoor and outdoor pools with 2 slides. We went every evening. I went to the adult sauna area for some peace and quiet from the boys for an hour ( extra charge of €10. Well worth it.
Overall, there is something for everyone here. That good we are booked in for this Christmas 2025 with 10 of us going. From first time skiers. 3 and a 4 year old, four teenagers and adults that have skied season before.
With 210km of skiing you can’t go wrong. 5 stars from me.
