Feb 2023, 8 day visit. Expect weather and visibility issues. Stayed on the runs because of my visibility vertigo. I was told not to expect bluebird days in Niseko. Got fresh snow everyday, not huge amounts, but a few inches. I experienced mixed snow conditions, from powder to ice. The lifts really need to be updated. Slow or closed lifts appear to be commonplace because of wind. With limited lower lifts open, it's not worth the effort on these days, everyone trying to get to an adjacent resort (Hanazono's newer gondola), huge bus queue, little to no info from the resorts on lift status. The Hilton is great, but isolated. I used the shuttles and buses frequently.

Niseko Village is a great resort and has extremely user-friendly ski-in/ski-out services. I was in Niseko Village for 2009 Xmas to ski or, to be exact, learn to ski. Can't comment on the instructors because I have no comparison. However, the arrangement made by Hilton Niseko Village to assist skiers/boarders alike were really fantastic. Simply ski down the slope, take off your skis/board, enter the hotel building and within 10 steps there are welcoming hands from a counter help to store your equipment and right next to this, a second counter stores your boots in exchange for your own shoes. This will be the reverse when you want to go out skiing/boarding and the lift and gondola are only 10 to 20 steps after exiting the hotel building. Totally trouble-free and energy saving. Moreover, these are all carried out with broad smiles.

This mountain rocks, everyday is a powder day and it didn't seem like it was snowing that hard when I was there (12-16th Jan) but the flakes just keep floating down all through the night. Higashiyama is only good at the top slopes by the Ace Pair lift or if you ski down from the Prince gondola and take a short hike up to Panorama gate and then continue through the trees. But head over to An'nupuri an there is just great powder everywhere and nice easy tree runs with nothing too steep. Good if you are skiing/boarding pow for the first time! Spent an entire day on this side and was planning on exploring the Hirafu side but the wind picked up and the lifts got shut down...this seems to be a not uncommon occurrence! Downside to Higashiyama is night life is non-existent. You need to take a 20 min bus over to the main village in Hirafu and even this is pretty quiet when compared to something like Whistler or Val d'Isere
