Stayed at the guest house Sonia in Neiderau. Basic, immaculately clean but lovely and comfortable. Nothing is too much bother for the owners, they're delightful. Sonia is about ten minutes walk max and if you're with Panoramic, Neilsen or Thomas Cook you can leave your skis for free in the main depot (well organised). Had a fall and did my knee in. Went to the local docs and the service was brill. Took EU card and paid 26 Euros for an anti-inflammatory cream, painkillers, knee support and physiotherapy. What a bargain, but you must take your card. Snow 'n slopes were brill. Plenty of blues 'n reds. We're both intermediates but we were occupied by variety. So many slopes in the nieghbouring town too. Loved it and can't wait to go next year. Loads better than Bulgaria.

I'd recommend Niederau to beginners and intermediates alike, it has a fabulous atmosphere and the ski school is fantastic.

This is an amazing resort, just keep away from the Hotel Vicky, it was a joke even to the point when we got served water in plant pots but we had to laugh. The instructors are amazing. I had Andreaos. He is a real charmer and fantastic skier. My children loved it too. It is our 5th time.

Had the most fantastic time. Have been going to Neiderau since 2001. Fantastic resort. You won't get that atmosphere anywhere else, even though we've tried many other places. Last years name for Gunters was Gunter the Hunter! for women that is. The hotel Vicky was a shocker. Have been to that hotel since 2001 and it has really gone down the pan. We christened the hotel "Carry on up the Vicky". It was filthy, the staff were in the the cave bar until 4pm so you can imagine what they looked like for breakfast, the hotel was a disgrace and, when I get time, Thomson will have a letter from all 20 of us who went. I won the ladies advanced gold cup! Yahoo, and beat all the men in the resort except the winner and that was my husband. I will get him next time. Sailed through the finishing line on 31 seconds, yippee! My little lad won the childrens' advanced class with a gold cup so you can see we mean serious business! Ha ha. Had Tony for our instructor; brilliant! Was shattered every day; he's superb. Wish you would have spoken to us, it would have been nice. So after my performance in Gunters, hope to see you guys next year. Keep us posted when you're going.

Just got back from Neiderau yesterday and it was fantastic! My beginner niece was whizzing down the red runs by the end of the week.....thanks to her great instructor Peter! There was a fairly heavy snow fall mid week which was good to see. The conditions weren't as good as the last time we were there but this time we had more confidence to go higher up the mountain where the snow was better. The apres-ski at the Sports Bar was brilliant....we went there most days after ski school and left on a drunken high just in time to make dinner! Gunther is as mad as us Scots! He kept us all entertained with all his props he brought out from behind the bar!! Claire - I'm quite sure we saw your crowd one night in there.....if dancing on the bar to Rock DJ by Robbie Williams rings a bell then it was definately you guys! lol. Anyway, we are looking at booking up for next year so will maybe see you all again very soon!

Hi Graeme, Neiderau is not a resort for advanced skiers, we are good intermediates and there's enough for us to do. On saying that we always go into ski school. If you make your own routes you can ski Neiderau in a morning. We have been in March when you have to keep a eye on the snow with spring conditions. We are hoping to go again in March but not quite sure where. Not sure about the Hannes but all accommodation in Neiderau is satisfactory. Very warm usually in March. We went last year and by lunch time the snow was heavy. Quite a few broken legs. Head to Auffach where all the runs are pretty much the same, no trees though. Only been once and found it boring. Neiderau has some little routes off-piste which are great fun and we have been down under the gondola; that was a challenge. Looking forward to it this time. Ski school is brill! Suppose we don't really need it but the atmosphere is great and we love it! Have a great holiday. We are off tomorrow morning from East Mids and can't wait to meet up with all our ski buddies!

Hi. In response to the Harfenwirt... this hotel is a little out of the town but once you have your skis etc you can cross the road there to the lift, go to the top (it's a drag lift) and then you can ski down the last bit of red 19 and you're straight into the resort. If you haven't skied before you wont like the last drop off red 19 so will have to walk into town, which is 5 mins. The best idea is to rent a locker at the ski hire shop then you wont have to carry skies or boots. The 'Gold Cup' ski race is a must and, guess what, we're all serious about it...no really, it's a fun race but there's a bit of competition between us lot. Yahoo!

In response to Jane Richardson's question. When we were there last year, the ski school classes were held next to each other on the same slope but, I'm embarrassed to say, the kids advanced a lot quicker than the adults and were soon off up the mountain. The ski school is excellent and we had a brilliant instructor, (Peter Weiser). Lots of parents spent their time dashing back to pick up their kids for lunch but there is no need to do this as the instructors will take them all for lunch together, and I think the kids prefer the freedom. Bobos is the best bar at the bottom of the slopes. Brilliant atmosphere although, like most places in Austria, it gets a bit smokey. We didn't stay at the Harfenwirt but did go there for the ski race presentations, a great night. The hotel seemed ok to us (have a go at the race, it's a great laugh and you do get a medal). To be quiet honest you will probably find, like us, that the hotel is just somewhere to sleep as you are out most of the time. Niederau is great for beginners and intermediates but if you get bored (which I doubt you will) you can just jump on the bus to Auffach which has a good selection of red runs.

Heading to Niederau on 2 Feb 2008. I've read lots of reviews and all looks good for 2 novices, an aging skier (never skied before) and an 8 year old + an intermediate. Staying at the Harfenwirt and not quite sure what to expect - read some quite mixed reviews.

In reply to Claire & David's review, I am also heading to Neiderau on 2 Feb 2008 with my husband and 4 others! This will be my 2nd time to Neiderau. Tried Sauze d'Oulx in Italy last year and it just didn't compare. We are staying in the Hotel Sonnschien and couldn't fault it the last time we were there, 4 years ago. The food was great & the rooms in the new annex were excellent. The resort itself is great for beginners and the ski school is excellent. We had an English instructor called Andy who was a good laugh and was even up for a bevy at night! Anyone going there will definitely want to return......we did! See you on the slopes (or in the bars).
