Don't be too put off by the concrete monstrosity which is the small shopping 'centre'. Yes, it's awful and all those involved in designing, approving it and building it should be ashamed but turn your eye away from it and the overall setting at Bled is quite beautiful. Yes, it is commercial but that's relative too but it's a quality resort and Slovenia is as much about the great people as the scenery. Personally, I wouldn't make the visit to ski at the small resort in Bled unless you know there has been a recent big dump and the snow will be good because it's at very low altitude and often the snow isn't up to much. Bled has also only got two runs: a fairly short blue and one red straight down which is FIS level and steep at the top and so it isn't going to capture the imagination for long. However, it is floodlit for night skiing. The view from the top is lovely looking down over the lake and to the castle. It's really a summer destination, I think, when the run becomes a toboggan run which is fun. If you want real unspoiled beauty in a lake setting you must head for Bohinj - a 20 minute drive from Bled. You won't regret it and the skiing at Vogel/Kobla/Soriska and night skiing at Sredjna Vas is worth it.
