North America's 26-27 ski season is underway with Colorado's Arapahoe Basin believed to be the first to open, as it often is.
The centre, with one of the 10 highest altitude ski areas in the world, announced this morning it would open at 11am local time, initially with their Black Mountain Express and High Noon lifts spinning.
"We are open 7 days a week for as long as possible," a resort opening statement explained, adding, "Here’s to 80 years of doing what we love with the best community around. Thank you to our incredible staff and to everyone who skipped work to celebrate with us."
Arapahoe Basin is currently on the IKON Pass, Keystone on the Epic Pass is also aiming to open as soon as possible. Other Colorado resorts Loveland and Wolf Creek (which reported 20"/50cm of snowfall earlier this week) are also expected to open soon with Breckenridge and Copper Mountain saying 6 November in just over a week is their target opening day.
