Australia Snow Report and Ski Conditions 2025
The southern hemisphere's season continues to wind down, with most of the half-dozen or so ski areas that had been open last week ending their seasons on Sunday or before. So, we’re down to the final few centres still operating in Australia, Chile and New Zealand.

In Australia, the season is over at all of the country's major snowfields. Still, Mt Mawson in Tasmania has seen more fresh snowfall over the past week, even though we have reached the mid-point of meteorological springtime, and has been reopening its small ski area.

Australia Snow Forecast
In Tasmania, the outlook is mostly dry. Resorts like Mt Mawson may see trace snowfall on Wednesday and Thursday, but no significant accumulation is expected. Winds will be brisk, with gusts up to 43 km/h, and temperatures hovering between 1°C and 10°C.
New Zealand Ski Report and Snow Conditions 2025
For New Zealand, it’s believed all of the country's South Island ski areas have now closed, with Mt Hutt announcing a slightly-earlier-than-expected season-end last week due to unfavourable conditions and forecasts.
"It's with great disappointment that, after this week's challenging weather and looking ahead to the forecast for the weekend, we've made the difficult decision to close for the 2025 season. It's been a massive and thoroughly enjoyable season, and we've loved having you all visit us. We completely understand your disappointment, as we feel it too! But with the windy days set to continue, we won't be able to reopen this closing weekend. Yep, it's a real bummer! But there are only 246 days until we open for Winter 2026!"
The Remarkables was therefore the last South Island ski area open; it closed last Sunday.
The New Zealand ski season continues in the North Island, though with Whakapapa (60/90cm / 24/36”) and Turoa (10/120cm / 4/48”) on Mt Ruapehu still operational. Both were closed over the weekend as rain, sleet and snowfall, along with strong winds, moved through. It has been clearer in recent days, though with typical springlike conditions.

New Zealand Snow Forecast
Light snow is forecast for Whakapapa and Turoa, especially on Thursday and Friday. Accumulations will be modest, up to 10cm (4”), with snowfall levels between 1600m and 2300m. Winds will be intense at times, with gusts reaching 50 km/h, and temperatures ranging from -2°C to 5°C.
Andes Chile Ski Report and Final Week Outlook 2025
In the Andes, it’s believed all ski areas are now closed except Chile’s Valle Nevado (10/80cm / 4/32"), which is into its final week. It has been reporting good conditions and some of South America’s deepest cover all winter. It's still reporting that more than half of its slopes are still open.
Andes Snow Forecast
In the Andes, moderate snowfall is forecast for higher elevations, where up to 15–24cm (6-10”) is expected midweek. Conditions will be cold and windy, with snow levels dipping below 3000m and temperatures ranging from -4°C to 2°C. Clearer skies are expected by the weekend, though flurries may persist in exposed areas.
