Europe Intro
Another Austrian glacier ski area ended its 25-26 season last weekend after eight months, but a second Norwegian summer ski glacier opened for its 2026 season in Scandinavia, so Europe remains on seven areas open. That should be the case after the weekend too, as although another glacier is set to close, another summer ski destination opening will again cancel that out. With the start of meteorological summer time next week, temperatures continue to rise, with the freezing point starting to move above most alpine peaks in the afternoons now.

Alps Snow Report
The Kitzsteinhorn glacier ended its 2025/26 season last weekend, reducing the number of open glacier ski areas in the Alps to four. Currently operating are Hintertux Glacier and Molltal Glacier in Austria, the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise between Zermatt and Cervinia, and Les 2 Alpes in France, which continues to report Europe’s deepest snowpack at 365cm (146”).

Alps Snow Forecast
A mild and mostly stable late-spring weather pattern continues across the Alps. Freezing levels are expected between 3,200m and 3,600m.

Scandinavia Snow Report
Norway’s Stryn glacier opened for its 2026 summer ski season last weekend, providing a third option in Scandinavia alongside Galdhøpiggen and Sweden’s Riksgränsen. Weather conditions have remained cold and unsettled across the region, with regular snow showers and below-average temperatures.
Scandinavia Snow Forecast
Cool and changeable late-spring conditions are expected to continue across Scandinavia with light snow or sleet possible on higher slopes.
