Australia's 2026 Season Starting With Fresh Snow
Mother Nature has delivered across the Australian Alps with near perfect timing for the start of the 2026 snow season tomorrow at most of the country's leading resorts, Saturday 6 June.
Mother Nature has delivered across the Australian Alps with near perfect timing for the start of the 2026 snow season.
Up to 35cm (14”) of snowfall this week coupled with snowmaking-friendly subzero temperatures across most resort areas means most will have some, if not a ,lot of terrain open for the opening weekend from Saturday, 6 June, 2026.
Perisher, Thredbo, Corin Forest, Mt Buller, Falls Creek and Mt Hotham have all confirmed some skiing and snowboarding will be available on their opening day this weekend, with Charlotte Pass and Selwyn Snow Resort scheduled to open from Saturday 20 June.
Among slopes confirmed to open this weekend, Perisher says their Front Valley conveyer carpet lift will be open, as well as a hike park and snowplay options.
"We’re thrilled to welcome guests back to Perisher and to share the excitement of opening weekend at Australia’s largest ski resort, which has plenty of room for guests to discover their special mountain moments," said Nathan Butterworth, Vice President and General Manager of Perisher Ski Resort, who added, “Excitement is at an all-time high thanks to the incredible inspiration from our winter Olympians' success earlier in the year."
At Falls Creek the Mouse Trap carpet will provide guests with the opportunity to get back on snow and kick off winter at Falls Creek. In addition, Halley’s Comet chairlift will be operating for chairlift rides providing access to Mouse Trap carpet and Cloud 9 Restaurant for lunch, drinks and alpine views.
At Hotham the Summit Trainer Carpet will be running for skiing and boarding. Other areas are still confirming what will be open tomorrow, but its expected to be similar limited areas initially.
Moving forward the snowy weather has cleared and strong winds earlier this week have now settled. Temps are set to drop again however, which will see some more good snow making windows.
