Just returned from a 1 week holiday with Crystal in Rauris with husband and two teenage children. Stayed in apartments close to the centre of the village which were fine and meant we could eat out at different places in the village. Snow conditions were fabulous and the ski instructors from Karl Maier ski school were the best. They really created a family atmosphere with the music and presentation evenings. We all had a great laugh and there is a lot of pressure to return next year to the same resort as it was hard to fault it.

Just returned from an amazing weeks skiing at Rauris. Party of 7 ranging from absolute beginner to experienced intermediate. All booked for 5 days ski school with Karl Maier. As an experienced intermediate skier I was less than impressed with my instructor. Basically wasted my first days skiing "learning" the basics again. I left the school and never went back. That said the remainder of the week was fantastic. Youngest member was my 9 yr old daughter who loved her instructor (Carmen) and was skiing red runs with me after 3 days. We had 2 snow falls on consecutive nights and the powder was brilliant. Stayed at the Rauriserhof, I would recommend this hotel every time and can't wait to return. If it's excellent food you're after and friendly, professional staff then this is the place. The hotel has free table tennis, pool, sauna, jacuzzi, bowling (1 for Euro 10 mins). Rauris is a lovely village and I would thoroughly recommend it as a base for exploring the surrounding area, winter or summer.

Just got back from a long weekend in Rauris and had an excellent time. One hour drive from Salzburg on lovely clear roads. Skiing was superb with excellent snow and well groomed slopes (snow was starting to melt on the lower slopes on last day, Mon 10th). Stayed at the Alpenrose. Rooms were small and basic but clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for you. The food was also very good. Will definitely go back next year. Can't wait!!

Rauris is fantastic. We were there on Feb 9th (only getting to post review now) as a group of 8. 4 adults and 4 children aged between 17 & 9. We had never skied before and attended the Karl Maier ski school. They were fantastic. Hansi L was our instructor and he was so patient. It was half term so was very busy but they still coped really well. The kids (Mirren was their instructor)were up on the runs by Tuesday but the adults took a bit longer. Hans had the group on the runs by Thursday. We stayed at the Alpina Hotel where the staff could not do enough to help us. Ski bus stops outside the hotel. Food was great and accommodation spotless too. We'd highly recommend Rauris for families. It's a small resort and very safe. We went up on the gondola to see the views and left the children playing around on the nursery slopes with their friends - it's that safe. We'll be back again!

Booked through Neilsen for the 2nd year running. Six of us stayed at the Alpenrose. Looked after by Petra & staff. Nothing was to much trouble. Excellent location close to slopes & village centre. We could leave all our ski gear at the ski school which is a big bonus. Special thanks to our instructors, Theo & Tom for their patience & Neil the rep for seeing everthing was right. Rauris is the place to go for begineers & those who prefer it less lively. The week 12th to 19th January is also very cheap. Great holiday.

Skiing beginners and first time visitors to Rauris. Although we have visited Austria many times in Summer. We all (me, husband and 11 year old son) joined Adventure Rauris ski school. My son had a great time and whilst we were apprehensive about full day ski school & supervised lunch, his group had enough English kids for him to make friends and the ski instructor was great. A small friendly resort and clearly not ideal for skiers seeking extensive runs but certainly for families and beginners there was a relaxed, cosy feel to the resort and slopes. Whilst we saw no snow during our week stay the weather was beautiful blue skies all week - great scenery and the slopes had enough snow on, although it did get a bit icy by the end of the week. Booked with Nielsen which meant that we could leave our ski tackle at the shop right next to the gondola and nursery slopes which was ideal, notwithstanding the ski bus did stop immediately outside our hotel; Kristall. Would definitely recommend for the not too serious skiers and only a 1hr transfer from Salzburg . Don't expect a lively nightlife as everyone is in bed by 10pm !!!!!

Rauris is a hidden gem. Okay, for the run baggers it doesn't have the kms of many other more famous resorts in Salzburgerland but it combines a working Austrian village with great hospitality and fantastic mountain scenery. We loved it so much we bought an apartment in the recent Austrian Chalets development, only 150m from the nursery slope. The summer season has more to offer so, if you liked it in the winter, explore the side valleys and ridges in the summer. PS, don't tell everybody about it!

Just got back from a lovely week in Rauris 5-12th Jan 2008. Stayed at the hotel Alpina which was very friendly and able to cope with gluten-free meals required by our 2 children who are coeliacs. Ski school, Karl Maier, was a resounding success with our 8 & 10 year olds who were whizzing down the slopes by the end of the week. Would recommend Rauris and hotel Alpina.

We spent Christmas at the Kristall Hotel and took lessons with Karl Maier as complete beginners. FANTASTIC. That good that we're back there in 2 weeks. What more to say than that I would recommend Rauris to anyone. It is beautiful.

We loved Rauris! We have just spent Christmas week there, learning to ski and generally loving everything about the place! We stayed at the Alpenrose which was dated, but had the friendliest and most accommodating staff. It was also ideally situated on the edge of the village only a short walk (or ski) to the slopes. We learned to ski with Adventure Rauris and found them to be great, particularly with the children. Our kids (aged 11 and 8) are now skiing like they've always known how....progress with the adults in our party was slower (because we were slower learners) but even so we have all improved 100% and are now capable of descending right from the top of the mountain. Not all the instructors spoke good English, which made things hard at times. However, all our instructors were patient and good humoured. We loved Rauris and everyone we met there. We definitely want to return and whilst the slopes are not that extensive, it is ideal for beginners, intermediates and families.
