What's it like at Porters resort?

Porters is the closest ski area to Christchurch; rising to just under 2000 metres, Porters offers spectacular views of the Southern Alps of New Zealand and the skiing/boarding is suitable for all abilities, from first timers to experts. Advanced skiers and boarders will love two of New Zealand's legendary runs; Bluff Face and the awesome Big Mama. Specialist grooming offers supreme piste skiing as well as great intermediate terrain park, while the off-piste terrain is excellent for the more adventurous.

New for the 2015 winter season are a brand new Doppelmayr fixed grip quad chairlift and a new beginners area, created adjacent to the existing intermediate lift. The recently upgraded snowmaking system (2014) will help to maintain a consistent cover and quality of snow down the “Easy Street” slope. All slopes are now within easy reach. From the chairlift offload, the upper mountain can be accessed by 3 T-Bars offering a vast variety of intermediate and advanced terrain. Last but not least, Porters is introducing a new RFID lift pass system.

Friendly, medium sized skifield that has a good Kiwi and international mix of staff. Best option for a beginner to get going as mum and dad can have a ski and still keep an eye on the kids on the platter lifts. Coffee is great. On a full snow clear day it is unbeatable for terrain. Local tip, head for first runs in the morning to the top of T3 and come down Sundance, 3 solid runs. Then coffee run, then a fast McBulty run, Big Mamma or Bluff, lunch, sleep and finish the afternoon with a cruisy Easy street.
