Nagy-Hideghegy Ski Resort Guide

Recent information from our Resort Manager:
Alpine skiing is no longer possible at Nagy-Hideghegy. Decreasing snow coverage combined with the strictest application of the Natura 2000 project has prevented its development.

Nagy-Hideghegy (literally means Big Cold Mountain) is about 70 kms from Budapest, above the resort Királyrét (King's meadow), in the Börzsöny Mountains. It is one of the oldest ski centres of Hungary, the first race was held nearby in 1910. It is on the mountain, accessible from the nearest village (Királyrét) by a forestry road. Trails: 5, two for beginners (blue), 2 intermediary (red), one advanced (black). Now it has five surface lifts (one tow bar for beginners, 4 Poma There is now only one mountain lodge on the slope with accommodation and restaurant, no separate bars. The nearest railway station is Kismaros (on the Budapest - Szob line, 45 kms from Budapest), from there a road and a narrow-gauge railway takes one to Királyrét. It also has cross country trails taking one to the nearby peak Csóványos (936 meters), and one can ski down from the top to the parking-lot at 420 m, using a 8 km long trail. The mountain lodge (840 m) offers modest accommodation for 50. The skiing area is about 1,5 acres. Snowmaking has stopped since 2016. The week-end bus service stopped last year so access is only by foot. For the time being only ski touring is advisable.
