La Tzoumaz is a great alternative to Verbier if you want a quiet time but with a few bars if you want a drink after skiing. Don't expect anything too wild though. Most of the people in La Tzoumaz are there on a self-catering basis in either chalets or apartments. There is a good supermarket which should suit most people. The supermarket is open all year so stocks most things. All the blue and red slopes are excellent and usually so well groomed that you are down before you realise it. Good lift system at La Tzoumaz - virtually no queues. Most people from Verbier come over if the weather is poor over there as this resort is a little more sheltered. Ski and boot storage at the lifts if you want it rather than the need to haul your skis back to your digs.
Access to Verbier from the top of La Tzoumaz system is either to ski down through the forest; very pleasant, or if there is not enough snow get the gondola down and then the free bus to the main lifts. Bus seems to be every 5 mins.
For more than a couple of days though, you will definitely need the 4 valley pass unless you are a beginner in which case there is enough in La Tzoumaz. Also has sledge runs and forest walks. Go for it if you want the quiet life with minimal temptations after skiing.
Approx 2hrs 30 mins from Geneva by car.
