What's it like at Bovec - Kanin resort?

Bovec - Kanin is the first cross-border ski resort in Slovenia (the Kanin to Sella Nevea link was completed at the end of 2009). And this is the only ski area in Slovenia where the slopes spread higher than 2,000m. Bovec - Kanin is located above Bovec, with views over the world-renowned Soča River Valley where there is extensive cross-country skiing at low altitude. Because of the high altitude (2,300m) of the main pistes, there is reliable snow and a view that stretches from the heart of the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. There's 30km of slopes, for all standards, served by 9 lifts ( plus a cable car). It is not usually possible to ski to the valley at Bovec - Kanin. A special attraction of the Bovec - Kanin Ski Center is the opportunity to ski in three countries: at the Sella Nevea and Tarvisio ski resorts in Italy and at the Arnoldstein ski resort in Austria. Guests who purchase a six or seven day Bovec - Kanin ski pass can ski for two days free at these neighbouring resorts.

Marcus Allrightous from Australia writes:

While planning a ski trip to eastern Italy and Slovenia in the 2016 season I have discovered that the lifts & pistes on the Kanin/Slovenian side of the mountain have been closed for the past couple of seasons due to a 'malfunction' of the cable car and the subsequent bankruptcy of the resort operator. And according to the Bovec tourist information office there is no official word on when they might reopen.

Having enjoyed visiting the Soca valley during spring a decade ago I thought it would be nice to visit again in winter, particularly as they have the highest elevation ski area in the Julian Alps. Lets hope they can get their act together soon so that we can spend some money there!
