What's it like at Vogel resort?

Mt Vogel (1922m) is the first mountain barrier above the Adriatic Sea, so more snow tends to fall here than anywhere else of similar altitude in the Alps. It is a high mountain setting and there are extraordinary panoramas over the surrounding area. The resort lies in Triglav National Park above Lake Bohinj, giving Vogel a special attraction. There are well-groomed trails suitable for all abilities. In good conditions there is excellent off-piste skiing. The Julian Alps Ski Pass, available from Kranska Gora or Kravavec, is valid for Vogel and four other ski centers: Kranjska Gora, Krvavec, Cerkno and 3Laendereck (Austria).

Old Harry from Slovenia writes:

Vogel is in the Triglav National Park, and is one of the most scenic ski resorts I have ever visited. Parking is free and ample, and there is also a free ski bus service from all the local villages. Access to the slopes is by a modern cable car, but it can be very busy at weekends and at Slovenian half term, so expect a wait at those times. The majority of the resort is above 1500 mtrs (top of cable car), the exception is the bottom of the two man lift at 1220 mtrs; the highest point is Sija (see ya) at 1800 mtrs. There is a run to the bottom of the cable car, but given global warming, and the fact snow-making is banned in the National Park, it's seldom open these days. To get an accurate idea of the weather conditions ignore the mid-mountain forecast, as its much too low for what is actually in use. Staff are very friendly, prices competitive, and scenery breathtaking. There are plenty of cafes on the slopes, with inside and outside eating areas, prices are good compared to other European resorts. Lift prices are also very reasonable, but that reflects the relatively small skiing area. Lift queues are rare, except at weekend and holidays and the skiing is great for beginners and intermediates. There is plenty of cheap accommodation in the local villages, Bohinjska Bistrica being the largest, and this has 2 supermarkets and a railway station, it also has a number of restaurants and bars. There is a swimming pool and sauna at the squa park in the Eco Hotel, which is open to all, its also possible to get a massage here. However, apres-ski is virtually non existent. Bo Bist is also well served by a public bus service, which runs between Bohinj Lake (at the foot of Vogel) and the Capital Ljubljana; enroute it passes through beautiful Bled. Nearest Airport is Ljubljana, though there is no direct public transport between the airport and Bohinj. However, there are shuttle buses that run between the airport and Bled and it is sometimes possible to arrange a shared shuttle bus to Bohinj. Otherwise, a taxi is around 60 Euro's. In short, if you are a party hound, this is probably not the resort for you, but if you are a family or looking for a quiet relaxing holiday, this is the place for you!
