Just experienced one of the best days of Scottish skiing today at Glenshee (Jan 7th '08). Blue skies, no wind, powder snow and best of all - no crowds! Yes, we are talking Scotland here!
I think we tend to forget what Glenshee has to offer when conditions are perfect like today and remember this is only the start of the season with more snow forecast later on in the week. The piste bashers are already busy preparing the entire ski area for later on in the week - who needs the Alps with Glenshee on your doorstep!
Could be the best skiing in the world, could be the worst skiing in the world. But when the snow's there it's a fantastic asset to Britain. March 6th, 2005 had some of the best snow conditions in Europe and could be found at Glenshee. KEEP GLENSHEE OPEN !
It may not have the best snow record but when it's good its f***ing magic. I have skied in Europe and the pistes may be long and have good snow most years, but this does not mean everything. You do not get corries like half pipes and natural hits all over the hills in the Alps.
If your are wanting to sit around looking cool and getting a tan go to Chamonix or any other resort in the Alps. However if you want to ski come to Scotland.
Glenshee, skiing for the hardcore.
I was up at Glenshee on Monday 6th March 2006, and it was the best day I've had snowboarding in Scotland for years - great snow, clear blue skies (even got sunburn!) and no queues for any lifts. I have had bad days at Glenshee in the past (rocks, mud, ice), but it just shows that when the conditions are right Scotland can offer snowsports comparable to it's European counterparts.
The end of November 2005 was a wonderful time for skiing at Glenshee. Loads of fresh snow and not a rock in sight. Unfortunately only a couple of lifts were open even though the whole Glen was covered. The weather was a surprise so that can be forgiven. I went up to Glenshee today (Sunday 5th March) and the only words to describe it are unorganised chaos. I queued for over an hour for ski hire, an hour for lift pass, 20 mins for a stinking bog, 45 mins for a rickety old lift.... blah blah blah... Scottish skiing is doing itself no favours by treating their customers like this. Get it sorted. Your Glen is wonderful.
Just back from Glenshee after my first day boarding this season, possibly the best day ever at a Scottish resort, excellent snow, packed powder type stuff, not wet enough to make a snowball. No ice, no rocks, no grass, nothing except smooth white snow, hardly any people and bugger me the sun was shining!!!...if only it was guaranteed every year, there would be no need to leave these fine mountains to visit the french queue dodgers...

I think Glenshee is the best resort in the uk you just have to go at the right time so if your planning on going check the conditions first! The prices are exelent compare to canada where the lowest priced ski pass is $250 for a day! Ive had many great memories at Glenshee and on a good day or even a bad day you can always find a good spot for skiing. Europe has had so many bad winters resently that even a normal one would be a shock to us. So find some time to go there and you will know what im talking about. The Lecht and the Cairngorms might be open more than Glenshee but that's because Glenshee doesn't open when there is 3 inches of snow; they wait for the conditions to get good mostly because they don't want their skis that get hired to get scratched. I went skiing at the Lecht and Glenshee last year and Glenshee was the best because at the Lecht I was skiing on frosty grass, mud and the smallest amount of snow so when I turned it left grass. But at Glenshee they had pushed all of their snow onto 3 runs so it left 27 bare runs and 3 completly covered in snow. So if you have the choice of where to ski pick Glenshee and you will ave the best fun.

Glenshee is the largest and most varied of the Scottish resorts and has the advantage of runs on all aspects. Even in a lean winter there will be good skiing somewhere in the area; you just might have to search a bit for it; and that's what skiing in Scotland comes down to; an attitude of mind to seek out the good snow as the weather can be a little unpredictable! Most people I 've met who ski there really enjoy it; jerks like "Willie Broon" are thankfully thin on the ground and with any luck will take their skiing, and ignorance, elsewhere.

Probably the worst ski resort in the world. No piste preparation , no uplift maintenance , high prices , rarely any snow, overcrowded - in fact I sometimes (everytime I go ) wonder why I bother to ski there at all 'cept its only 1\2 hour from home.
