Skied at Coronet's (Coronet Peak) today - awesome - night skiing was amazing and the snow was terrific - man-made mostly but excellent conditions - enjoy.

Hey, just so reviewers know, Coronet Peak decided not to build a park this season. And they decided to instead invest all of their park building time and money into Remarks instead. It is a bit of a bummer that they didn't have any park features at Coronet this season, but I can understand where they're coming from and why they're doing that, cause I reckon that if you're not gonna build a decent park don't build one at all right, plus Coronet is a real fun freeride mountain with heaps of stuff to play around on. The time and money that they could of put into a Coronet park but put into Remarks instead was worth it I reckon because their park was fully built and cranking on opening day and they always had heaps of different and new features at Remarks as well. chur.

I love this mountain, Coronet Peak has all you need. There are less challenging runs for the beginner and advanced runs for the more extreme and there is a snow park that is pretty well equiped with some fun features for the free-stylers. However, I was at Coronet Peak not too long ago and they hadn't got their park together. This was a major let down, but I still enjoyed the day.

You know what all I can say to all these people is as long as there is snow - it's all good. Someone asked me back home what was the best ski field in Australia to which I replied "the one that's closest to you". Come on guys lets not forget why we are skiers. We love the freedom and the white legal stuff as they call it!!!! I say if the lift goes fast or slow who cares as long as there is one!! Beats walking. Let's get back into the true stuff and enjoy the opportunity that is presented to us. Stay true and just have fun and don't forget keep challenging yourself or you just become a lazy skier.

Handy to town, fun runs and the new base building is great. We were lucky enough to time our holiday with some great snow (unlike last year) but the lift queues were at times long and disorganised, staff generally rude and unhelpful. Overall quite an expensive holiday. I love NZ and look forward to getting back there, but not for the snow season - totally outclassed by Japan.

As a long time patron of Coronet, I have to ask Debbie and Katie what they are talking about with the slow lifts? "A lot of resorts in Europe and also now OZ are operating high speed lifts, not so at CP" - interesting considering Coronet has 2 high speed lifts, 1 state of the art Poma Leitner 6-seater, (complete with foot rest!), and one Dopplemayer quad, which operates more uphill capacity than any other lift in NZ. Strange... Overall Coronet has proved throughout this year with its new base building and spectacular snowmaking capabilities that it is the creme de la creme of skiing in NZ. It might not be Zermatt but its getting there. They had the mountain covered with artificial after that odd warm spell wall to wall within 10 days. Fantastic storms the last few days have meant awesome powder too!

We had lots of snow at CP, so that was good! I too found the lifts very slow. A lot of resorts in Europe and also now OZ are operating high speed lifts, not so at CP. The runs are pretty short and coupled with slow lifts you spend a lot of time off the snow, which for some people is ok, but I like to be on the snow. The ticket system is also antiquated and really needs an upgrade. The lift queues weren't big but were very disorganised and resembled a rugby scrum at times. Overall my impression of skiing is NZ is that someone needs a kick up the bum. I've skied Remarks and CP and they are not even close to average resorts in Europe. Both resorts very obviously need $$ for them to compete with Europe/North America.

I can't let Katie's biased review go unchallenged. Of course snow guns can't operate when it's not cold enough. NZ suffered an unseasonal warm spell at the beginning of winter (2008) that affected *all* resorts. Coronet Peak was the first to open and as soon as it got cold enough after the warm spell, the snow guns pumped out a massive amount of snow that had all the main trails open in 3 days. No other ski resort in the Southern Hemisphere can compete with that level of snow making. As for the slow lifts, the double chair is the only slow lift as it is deliberately designed that way for beginners. The quad and 6 seater chairs are both very swift chairlifts.

What a great mountain! I love the new base building - the best I have seen anywhere. We were in town for 7 days and we skied Coronet every day with new snow on the trails every night with the snow guns! Awesome - cant wait to get back!

All the hype about Coronet was a massive disappointment! The snow guns do not work if its not cold enough and who wants man made snow anyway when Cardrona is naturally a better mountain all round! And what a waste of money that building is! Why not speed the lifts up or pay the staff more so they are not so rude!
