A gem of peace and great skiing with access to the full Porte du Soleil. As of winter 2017/18 the Morgins and Champoussin ski areas are now under new management and over the next few years the lifts and snow making facilities will all be hugely improved which will no doubt bring the crowds so go now whilst it's still relatively undiscovered. Slopes are quiet and a mix for all levels. For apres-ski and lunch/dinner the fabulous Italian "Amici" is the top pick (great food and location) followed by Le Poussin. The views are stunning and it's a great choice for families with quiet sunny nursery slopes and a great ski school next to the Amici Restaurant.
We have been coming to Champoussin for about 4 years now. We love the place - ski slopes right next to the accommodation, quiet slopes in the area, and easy access to the whole 600km+ Portes du Soleil pistes either via Les Crosets or Morgins. Morgins great for a 1/2 day or if the light is bad as the runs down to the resort are through trees and with lots of route options. Snow parks in Les Crosets and Avoriaz, snow-cross in Avoriaz - lots to keep teenagers happy ! Good restaurants throughout the area, plus a number of 'hors sac' rooms to eat a picnic. We love it!
Champoussin was originally built around a Nederlands Ski-Club shed (now derelict), there are still more Dutch visitors than other nationalities, but increasing numbers of English as well in the last five years (we have an apartment there!). Skiing is best for intermediate skiers, with easy half-day access to a good variety of blue and red runs and a couple of black, between Les Crosets and Morgins. There are also short and highly visible off-piste areas. Go out for the day, and you have the full Portes de Soleil in reach. Nowhere in Champoussin is more than 100m from the piste. There are also snow-shoe trails, and a 3km sledge run (return by bus). The village has half a dozen bars and restaurants, but is mainly a family resort. There are a couple of ski shops, and a single general supplies shop. The road to Champoussin is narrow and winding, but locals (including the bus) drive it as if on a motorway. The nearest towns (Champery and Monthey) are 30 min by car – but snow chains may be needed (20% probability?) if you have no snow tyres. Geneva airport is 1h40m by car in good conditions, but can be reached by public transport in 3 hours (bus to Val d’Illiez, funicular to Aigle and main-line train to Geneva airport).

Just got back from 4 days in Champousin. Great skiing but a very quite village. The resort was full of Dutch people (there is nothing wrong with Dutch people!) and the hotel we were staying in was known as 'Little Holland'. Not exactly a ski in / out resort but only a short walk to the slopes. I would not recommend this place for total beginners. There are some lovely easy blue runs but steep access to these via those horrible 'T' bar lifts would make it a challenge. Good access from Champoussin to the whole of the Portes du Soleil area, right over to Les Gets. We took a day touring to Les Gets and it was a fast run through Avoriaz but really slow through Morzine, using a bus and a walk. Then big queues to get up through Morzine and then long delay in Les Gets when the main lift broke, leaving hundreds of people clambering for the old bubble lift.
The Hospital du Chablais was fantastic, as we found out, after my mate stashed it big time on the black run going down into Champoussin. Quick easy helicopter ride from the slope to the hospital. Look out for his helmet cam video on You Tube!
Anyway, after rambling on for a while. I would probably not stay in Champoussin again but would stay over in Avoriaz. Same big area to ski but better facilities and atmosphere.

Champoussin is a very peaceful resort with superb ski and board slopes. It is located in the centre of the Swiss part of the Portes du Soleil, 45 minutes to Avoriaz and close to the Swiss 'wall'.
Apres-ski is getting better every year. Since 2003 three new places opened at Champoussin and the existing ones do their best to improve.
Good ski school for younger children as well.
We had a fantastic time skiing at Champoussin. France is so close and being the hottest winter in 100 years we had enough alternatives 5min. from Champoussin to make an unforgettable ski holiday. Very child friendly!
