I went to Poiana in Jan 2012 and had a great time, I stayed in Brasov and got the bus up to the resort to snowboard. It was my first time SB but found the routes good for a beginner. The buses run every 15/30 mins, taxis are reasonable to, the people are very friendly and helpful. The food is also very good and there is lots to see around the town, the only bad thing I have to say is on a weekend it can get busy with people traveling from other places around the country to ski/SB. It's cheap to use the lifts compared to the Alps at 125 Ron for the day. Well worth a go.
