Snow Bobsleigh Wins Sculpture Competition

A bobsleigh sculpture created by Ralf Rosa and Peter Fechtig from Germany has been declared the winner of the annual Shapes in White snow-sculpture competition staged at the Austrian resort of Ischgl.

The 28th snow-sculpture competition asked teams to create spectacular winter-sports visions up to 10 metres high, with a British team opting to recreate famous ski jumper Eddie “The Eagle” for their entry (below).

Other entries included “Ice Skates”, a pair of oversized ice skates and “Big Air”, which shows a snowboarder performing aerial acrobatics.

Guests in Ischgl can admire the icy winter sports landmarks on foot or on skis as they enjoy the resort for as long as they last.

Dietmar Walser, Managing Director of the Paznaun – Ischgl Tourist Board, and jury, says: “Every year, the artists impress us anew with their creative interpretations of the motto and their skilled implementation. This year, the four pairs of artists made our choice particularly difficult”.

The 29th competition will take place in January 2023.
