Western North America
The big news in North American skiing this week is that Banff’s Sunshine ski area is set to re-open this weekend for 16 days of summer skiing served by their Standish and Strawberry Express lifts. The centre reported one of its snowiest ever winters with more than 190m (33 feet) of snowfall, equivalent to a three-storey building's worth of snow depth, and the snow has kept falling through June, with more than 50cm (20") reported through this month to date.

South of the border, in the US, Timberline’s Palmer Snowfield on Mt Hood in Oregon remains the main option for skiers and riders wishing to hit the snow in summer. Freestylers can also continue to hit the hike-to terrain park at Colorado’s Copper Mountain, which is open to the public Thursday to Sunday and for use by summer campers exclusively on Mondays to Wednesdays. There have, though, been more temporary closures this week, mostly due to strong winds.

The summer ski resort at Beartooth Basin in Wyoming has had a tricky few weeks dealing with lift failure, and the Beartooth Highway used to access it was closed by summer snowfalls but finally reopened with its lift fixed and the road reopened for the start of this week.
Western North America Forecast
A cooler pattern edges into the western U.S., with Timberline seeing upper‑mountain lows in the mid‑20s to low‑30s°F and highs in the 40s–50s°F, plus a small chance of light flurries. Beartooth Basin stays colder, with teens to 20s°F overnight and 30s–40s°F by day, keeping surfaces firm early. Copper Mountain trends mild and dry for terrain park fun with 20s–60s°F.
In Canada, Sunshine Banff remains cool for June, with –5 to +5 °C on upper slopes and occasional light snow showers.
