Canada’s Season Starting Early
Canada’s 26-27 ski season is set to start early. Tomorrow, November 1st, after Lake Louise near Banff in Alberta announced plans to open a week earlier than originally planned.
“Thanks to cold October temperatures and our hardworking team, we're kicking off the 2026/27 ski season this November 1st! That's our second-earliest opening in resort history!” a resort spokesperson said, adding, ”For our second-earliest opening in resort history, you'll save over 60% on lift tickets! Juniper Express and Easy Street will be open and there will be two small early-season terrain parks with jumps and rails.”

Lake Louise had been expected to be the second Canadian ski area to open after its neighbour Sunshine Village. So far Sunshine, which has one of the world’s long seasons for a resort without a glacier and re-opened for summer skiing last June and July after closing in May following a historic snowfall season, has not responded.
However, Banff’s local Norquay Ski & Summer Resort has announced it will be opening a week earlier than its planned mid-November date and now the same day as Sunshine,
“Knock knock. Who's there? Opening day. Opening day who? Opening day is Friday November 6th!!” a Norquay spokesperson said, adding “That's right, we've moved up our opening day as conditions have been prime for snowmaking. Huge shout out to our snowmaking team for working hard and ensuring we can get shredding sooner. Please note: Lift hours have changed to 9:30-4:30pm.”
