Kitzbühel Announces 26/27 Ski Season Kicking Off 6 November

Kitzbühel has announced that its 26-27 season will kick off on 6th November, as usual it’s likely to be the first non-glacier resort in the Alps to open.

The famous Austrian resort (despite having one of the lowest summits of leading European resorts) achieves this by snow farming, stockpiling last season’s snow under cover through summer on its Resterkogel mountain, then spreading it back out on the slopes in autumn to create a 1km ski run.  The area is reserved for ski teams training from Monday-Friday each week but is open for public skiing at weekends.

“Even though we are still in summer, our planned operating hours for the winter 2026/27 are already set!” a lift company spokesperson said.

Next up, Kitzbühel plans its first skiing weekend at Hahnenkamm for a preview weekend on 21. – 22. November 2026 (depending on snow conditions), then a third area, the Kitzbühel Horn, will aim to start its full 26-27 season opening daily from 28 November 2026 when regular daily skiing should also kick off at Hahnenkamm – Fleckalm.

The target date for the full area opening is 11 December, with the complete ski connection open between Hahnenkamm, Fleckalm, Pengelstein, 3S-Bahn, Jochberg and Resterhöhe

“The beginning and end of the season depend on the current weather and snow conditions and are  subject to change,” the spokesperson cautioned.
