Colin, I appreciate your response and always felt it was probably down to a lack of vision/investment from the management company. As I said the resort has plenty of potential and if the right investment is made in the ski area and lift system, then it will be a very good place to visit.

Thanks Colin. My Family has a special feel for Valfrejus. Small but not so small and good skiing on upper slopes. A quiet resort where you, more or less, get to know everybody during the week. Good base for other resorts. Very strategically placed between Italy and France. Good road to resort. We have been to a lot of places around the ski world but Valfrejus is a special one and does it for me. Even thinking of buying something there. Will be going again once or twice this season. lets pray for a lot of snow though.

In Valfrejus there are 5 snow machines not 1 and it is not the fault of the drivers or workers that they have had poor piste conditions and maintenance in the past but a fault with the useless upper management and the managers of the resort.. But all is set to change as the old cronkey set of stick in the muds who didn't want to spend money and improve Valfrejus have now gone (Hooray) and the resort is now ready to be managed by the commune itself with the help of others. Given the good snow conditions that look promising for this season there is no better place to be than VALFREJUS; the powder paradise. So come and fill your boots.

Hi, I have just read Paul's review on Valfrejus and must agree with his comments concerning the poor piste maintenance. However I do believe that he is wrong when stating that they have only one 'basher' as I have seen two, although never both working at the same time. I have stayed at Valfrejus five times but use it as a base primarily for the easy access to the many other resorts in the valley. Valfrejus has a lot of potential especially if the village employed the same company that delivers perfectly groomed pistes in the nearby resort of La Norma. I like the village, bars, restaurants and when the snow (piste) conditions are good, the skiing. My biggest moans about this resort are why the resort officials tend to close the runs back to the village for no apparent reason and as I have previously said, the poor piste maintenance

Have been travelling to Valfrejus for the last 4 years with friends for a 4 day break. As a resort it has a lot of potential, but unfortunately one of the worst lift companies I have seen. The sight of 'the' (I say 'the' because there can only be one) piste basher at work is rare and generally the piste is in very poor condition. To give you an idea, in the 16 days we have spent in this resort, we have only bothered to ski it for 1.5 of those and the .5 was because we had no choice, as the road down to the valley was unpassable. The town however does act as a good base for some of the better resorts in the area, with Val Thorens, Valloire/Valmeinier, Val Cenis and the always excellent La Norma are all within easy drive of Valfrejus.

Hi to everyone, The conditions of the lower lopes are very bad(impossible to ski). The higher slopes are all ok till 2:00 PM. Great place for beginner skiers. There are also a few runs for advanced people. There are 3 bars and 2 discos but the prices are much higher then in Austria. I was also one day in Val Thorens and I loved it. Great runs, snow, villige and people.

Hello to everyone. Me and my friends are going to Valfrejus in a week. It's the first time we are visiting Valfrejus. I'm the only advanced skier, the other ones are all beginners. So could someone tell me how the snow conditions are in Valfrejus. And how the runs are for beginners or advanced skiers. Since we are all 18 years old, we would like to also go in bars or discos. So it would be nice if someone could tell me how the bars are. Thanks a lot Farbod

Dear Miro, No problem. Skiing the runs was possible. Not so much ice on it. If you are searching for good conditions, somebody told us to go to Val Thorens. There are good conditions and snow machines over the mountain. But I don't know anything about quietness and so on. Valfrejus is nice and quiet with one special pub. Good music and friendly people. Thanks Oliver. Much appreciated the valuable information and photos on the situation above Valfrejus. Looks like at least the weather was nice and sunny. The snow looks a bit thin and crusty. Was is possible to ski away from the runs or was the snow just too thin on top? Don't know what is up with the weather in recent years in the western Alps. Only one thing is left for us before we hit the mountain slopes-PRAY FOR SNOW!! and lots of it. This year I wanted something quiet for my family and friends with good snow and skiing down on the blacks there but I think we have to settle for only the views and here and there a little skiing. Thanks again Miro and Co

Hi there. Second time we are going to Valfrejus. 3 years ago or so the snow was plenty and we could ski everywhere. This year though ,looking at the snow reports up to now , it sounds it is pretty bad with ice everywhere. It is difficult to judge the snow cover only from one web camera placed on the middle station. Can anyone tell me first hand what the snow is like at the moment please? Is it sheet ice or just here and there? How about from the top? I know the resorts don't like it when the snow is limited and are trying to tell less. Please email me on [email protected]. Or maybe I will get lucky and will receive some photos.:)Thanks in advance.
