i live 15 miles from Szczyrk and I must say that Szczyrk has nice freeride zones! Just speak to young Polish chaps (most of them speak English) and I'm sure they will show you some of it. Go there in February/March, there will be lots of snow plus ski pass cost just 15 £, beer 1.50 £ and good lunch around 5 £.
Peace.
Szczyrk is a lovely, vibrant and kind community. Whenever we go, the slopes are always working and if the weather isn't always the best for snow sports then the snow-makers are vigorously working! There are local stores, churches and sports centres, that include a full sized (50m) swimming pool and outdoor athletics stadium. Staff at all facilities are always willing to help and there really isn't anything to complain about: cheap accommodation, facilities of all levels of difficulties and near-by stores! We will come here for years to come!
Before we came here to Szczyrk we asked the local municipality if arriving on 3th December was too early. They told us that all slopes were open already and there was lots of snow. Unfortunately, this wasn't true at all, only one slope was open with just little snow so we were skiing on rocks and no snowpark at all!
No one spoke English and they are very badly organized. I don't suggest that anyone comes skiing in this place, Bulgaria is 1000 times better, maybe a little more expensive.
Very nice slopes at Szczyrk, some easy and relaxing and others really technical, amazing the black FIS in Skrzyczna.
Very different from Alps but truely interesting.
The city of Szczyrk is nice and full of life.
We had an amazing stay at the Willa Dolce Vita, in front at the Skrzyczna ski resort. Beautiful place, great position and friendly owners.
We will be back!
