So how great is Schladming? The average temperature in the last few weeks has been something like 10 degrees celsius and it is raining regularly. It's ridiculous. And this is not an exception lately. Same thing happened to us last year (in January!). This resort may have been good years ago when it was ok to have a resort at 750 m above sea level. Nowadays anything less that 1300 -1400 m (base) and 2600m (top) is simply not good enough. So head to the higher Austrian resorts (Solden, Sport Gestein), or, even better, to the really high resorts in France and Switzerland (Tignes, Val Thorens, Saas-Fee, Les 2 Alpes).

A superb resort! Most of the slopes are wide and pass between the trees, which is wonderful. Challenging slopes are also there, as well as many long runs from top to bottom. They say Schladming has ~130 km of connected slopes, but the resort spreads over a large area and actually feels bigger than that. One down side is that most slopes turn to the same direction, so the view doesn't change much... Elevators are superb almost everywhere. More pluses: Prices are very fair, plenty of restaurants in the mountains, huge selection of accommodations. And locals are usually nice and helpful. And there's the Amade ski pass. Sure, other resorts can be 20-60 min drives. But well worth it. We had only 5 days, so we managed to try "only" to Flachau and Zauchensee. Also big resorts with high quality slopes and elevators, and even more picturesque views and postcard-like towns. We'll try other resorts next time. Highly recommended

Just returned from Planai, soon much snow. We have been going to Schladming for many years and wow have they made some great improvements, from the skiing to the après-ski. The new Tenne Bar is not to be missed and the hut below the top gondola station has the best food.

Our family visited Schladming for the 4th time (in winter). Christmas/ New year 2011/2012. Hopl ski school is fantastic on Plana, love all the instructors, young and old. Planet Planai is brand new and very user friendly. Love the big lockers. The new 8 seater chair lift to the top is fantastic. The snow was amazing this time. We ate in wonderful, traditional restaurants every night. Mountain food was excellent especially Uncle Willys and Scaff-alm...Very reasonable. Tenne was fun so was New Years Eve in the main square. Will always love Schladming...2013 should be amazing. We will be back!

Just been on the Planai website and can't wait to get back there for our 17th annual visit. I usually do another skiing holiday and have been to many other Austrian resorts, Italy, Switzerland, USA and even New Zealand. For a good all round resort you can't beat Schladming/Rohrmoos. If you feel like a coffee, there's one just round the next corner and of course they have food as well both self-service and table service. By the way don't tell anyone, it may spoil it but with the World Alpine Championships being there in February 2013 word is bound to get out. It's also the venue for one of the World Men's Slalom races each January and it not only gets the biggest crowds but is also the skiers favourite.

I have been to Schladming twice and it is an amazing place. I usually ski there in March and had planned to go again there in April 2011 but couldn't wait and so will be going there for Christmas and New Year! Nightlife is pretty quiet, but lots of places to eat, both in the town and on the slopes. Wine is very expensive, but beer is reasonable, far cheaper than France! Great swimming pool in the town and a great supermarket to stock up. All within walking distance. Fantastic snow all season from Dec-Apri! Brilliant!

Went to Schladming for the first time in Jan 2010 and are booked to go back Jan 2011. Our ski party have a discussion every year before deciding where to book and this year's decision was the easiest ever. Everyone of us agreed that last year was our best trip ever. The skiing, mountain huts, bars, food and atmosphere were second to none. Hope this is the next of many trips to Schladming.

Most runs at Schladming had vast wide piste which was mostly marked reds which I felt should be blue. Not much to challenge the experienced, but perfect resort for beginners & intermediates who wish to perfect their skills on the huge wide piste. Waits to lift was almost non-existent (maybe 5-10 mins max in the main Planai gondola during the weekend morning rush hour), but all others was ski up and off again in 1-2 mins max. Never saw a busy piste, and it's not unusual to find only yourself on a stretch of a piste too! Useful locker room at the main gondola at a bargain price of 1 Euro per day (easily fits 2 sets of skis + boots + helmets + more) which was really convenient too. Mountain restaurants was plentiful and meals was decent and still relatively good value too (French resorts take note!) Nightlife at Schladming is tame but adequate (go to St Anton if you want this on your holiday) Schladming hospital was top draw and the facilities were excellent as my friend found out! This hospital would put the UK private hospital to shame! Although the pistes are non too challenging, the overall resort experience was top notch and I would not hesitate to return and happily cruise down the near empty long red/black 3 run from top to bottom.

We can only concur with the other positive comments. Agreed, the advanced skiing is limited at Schladming, but a great family resort with excellent ski schools (Tritscher). Locals are welcoming and helpful. The town has everything you want, although we can't comment on nightclubs. We'll be back again!

Great to have so many different mountains on the same lift ticket at Schladming. Sizeable town centre with enough shops, bars & restaurants to satisfy most visitors. Sports bar shows soccer from different countries inc England with various matches covered by the many screens throughout the bar area. Some queues at peak periods but nothing too frustrating. Friendly staff throughout the resort. I would recommend Schladming to all.
