We visited Les Arc on January, 25, 2014. Staying in Le Belmont, in Les Ark 1800. Everything was nice, except:
They never retrack black pistes! As a result you can't enjoy the speed but struggle through moguls!
Next time I will check this while planing my trip.

We visited Les Arcs, staying in Le Belmont self catering apartments in the Charmettoger area of Arc 1800. We had a wonderful holiday. The apartment is superbly located (ski-in and out!) and it was very well laid out. We stayed in a 1 bed apartment that had a door onto the lounge and separate bedroom that provided us with 2 separate sleeping spaces. The shower room and separate WC were located off the entrance lobby so all in all, much the best (affordable) apartment we have stayed in whilst skiing!
The skiing was also great. Lots of leisurely blue runs with more challenging reds and of course blacks. There is lots of variety of skiing and the opportunity to ski from 3,200m down to 1,200m in the same resort! Les Arcs also has the advantage that you can take the Vanoise Express cable car to nearby La Plagne. More superbly manicured pistes and great skiing that made our holiday truly memorable. Arcs 1800 has 2 mini markets, one at roughly either end of the resort. Both are well stocked and the small kitchen, in Le Belmont, enabled us to make some superb meals after long days on the slopes. We even had a dish-washer!
We ate out in a strangely named restaurant (Le Marmite) and shared different types of delicious fondues for reasonable(ish) prices. The night-life appeared to be somewhat limited and finished around 10pm. But after long days out, that hardly mattered to us!
All in all, I would thoroughly recommend Les Arcs 1800 and Le Belmont apartments, in particular.

Les Arcs is my favourite place to board, the runs are wide and there are loads of blues and reds. Lots of facilities all across the mountain. Drinks can be expensive on the mountain but food is ok. We do some of our shopping in Bourg when we arrive on Eurostar and stay self catering in Arc1800 to keep the costs down. We usually manage to get a nice apartment in Arc 1800 for about £300 a week and get the Eurostar booked early. Take funicular/bus up to resort; no need for package holiday prices! By the way, there is a bus from the station to the funicular, it's not advertised but runs on a Saturday and saves you a lot of steps. However, in resort, the supermarket at the far end of 1800 is best; it's in the Charmotteger area. Food in the deli style shops is overpriced. I remember 2 years ago asking, in dodgy French, how much the rotisserie chicken was, only to be told it was a weighed price. Well, they looked small so I bought one. £14 bloody quid...£14. I expected it to be an endangered species for that price! Anyway, Les Arcs is great (La Plagne is too). Enjoy.
More useful information about Les Arcs, additional to my earlier posting.
On the Les Arcs side of the Vanoise Express, you can get a free bus down to Landry, if as on the day I caught it (Saturday), it stops short of Landry Gare, stay at that bus stop and wait for free bus to B St M. You will see a B St M bus go by in time, don't panic! it will go to the train station and then come back; free to B St M.
With reference to La Rosiere, be aware where the bus drops you off (opposite the Arpins bar and by the information office). If as I did, you ski back to the Eucharts lift, you have to walk some distance to get to the bus stop, and I got lost!
St Foy: the bus will drop you off at the village. There is a free bus transfer to the ski station village.
My research, prior to this ski trip, was aided by the internet, and purchasing the IGN contour map, 3532 ET of Les Arcs and La Plagne. I was apprehensive as to transfers etc but achieved everything except I couldn't make it to Champagny en Vanoise (from La Plagne), I was too tired on my first day.
I have had fun with video recording, and also using my Gtrek tracker.
9/1/2014 Arolla Hotel, Bourg St Maurice, Les Arcs. Arrived 4 Jan. 2014, Eurostar.
4 Jan: Skied Les Arcs to La Plagne (tired, no sleep!)
5 Jan: Skied Les Arcs
6 Jan: Bus to Val d'Isere (La Daille) skied over to Tignes, Val Claret etc.
7 Jan: Skied Villaroger and Les Arcs
8 Jan: Bus to La Rosiere (not Ecudets, free bus to there) and skied to Italy, La Thuile (fantastic!)
9 Jan: Rest! and visit to Moutiers
10 Jan: Ticket purchased to ski St Foy. Excellent travel links! Not to everyone's choice, skiing only some areas, but I am 65 and I wanted to sample different resorts. Purchase bus tickets the day before, at B St M train station. Stay in B St M. it is better by far.
Just back from a fantastic week at Arc 1800 with the family. For ski/board/equipment hire or purchase and lessons I'd heartily recommend Bazik/Privilege Ecole de Ski. Small and independent, you get great personal service here and the guys really care about what they do. Fully bilingual and happy to accommodate your needs. Find them Front de Neige @ Villards!
In reply to Mark's question about taxis - I would recommend Taxi AARTHUR who are based in Bourg St Maurice. This site won't accept links but you can look them up and find their website on Google.
Packed snow on pistes, but still good.
Some good stuff off-piste on north facing slopes. Busier than I'm used to in mid-Jan - I guess the great weather and great snow has brought people out of the woodwork.
Bright sunshine from dawn till dusk, great food and great bars in Arcs 1950. Life doesn't get much better!
Yes, it has got it all, including a fairly fast lift system. But you have to avoid some of the crowded pistes. Even this week (mid Jan) we had to be careful where to ski and a what times to avoid them.
We saw 3 collisions with ouch factor in one day. Big groups of 10+ skiers, plus ski schools, plus beginners made for end of the day home run mayhem.
The slow zones are not supervised (naked stag group speed tucked through the one at 1800 while Piste Security watched and laughed). Would you get away with this in Whistler ? - not a chance.
So yes it's good, but maybe a victim of it's own success?
We skied Tignes the next day and it was so much quieter on the slopes. The day after Saint Foy and it was empty, the last day was to meet friends who were in Les Arcs for the week - busy pistes again!
