Mind bogglingly brilliant. Some of the best tree skiing in Europe. Great alpine. Off-piste is epic and you can find lines for days. Friendly (for Switzerland). Second only to Andermatt and way better than Verbier!
I was in Lenzerheide in January 2010 - it really is a gem, you can ski the whole way around with just one bus and of course the bus goes with the usual Swiss efficiency. I understand the freeride is superb over the back of the Rothorn.
There's a brand new spa where you can wallow outdoors and have a (mixed, nude) sauna/steam indoors, plus indoor pools and waterslides, for about 15 Euros. I stayed at the Kurhaus which is quite trendy and they bring in big DJs at the weekend (although I never stayed up beyond 9pm, how lame).
Lenzerheide is easy to get to from Zurich by train/bus so great for a weekend.
We were at Lenzerheide in January 2009. What a fabulous resort. Skiing available even if it's snowing hard, due to the tree runs below mid mountain. The best 'free' bus system in the Alps. Also, no hotel is more than a short walk from either the bus or a lift. Varied skiing for all abilities amidst great scenery. The only slight downside is that the many mountain restaurants at Lenzerheide seem to have the same menu for lunch. If the link to Arosa goes ahead 2010/2011 there will be some serious ski mileage available. Can't wait to return next year.
Shh! Don't tell everyone how great Lenzerheide and its environs are - we don't want the world and his wife (and gromits) ruining the local and non-tourist feel of the valleys. Can't wait to return to Lenzerheide (for the 4th time) this March. We know folks there, so we feel like it's a home away from home. Ahh, for the joys of Pedra Grossa/Lavoz and the Rothorn.
Lenzerheide is a superb ski area - suitable for everyone - and all levels. Nearly always quiet too (on the slopes). Experience the Alps in the best way possible - superb scenery, empty pistes and a friendly vibe and it's not that expensive, contrary to belief.
Lenzerheide is just a great spot to be. Fantastic for free riders. Great mountains, friendly people, genius party locations. I recommend you just experience Lenzerheide. You won't be disappointed, I promise.
Cheers, Roger.
Shocking that NO ONE has reviewed Lenzerheide, as this is one sweet little Swiss Alp jewel>>>>fast lifts, lotsa snow and sun, steeps, cruisers, groomers, flats, glades, bowls and lots of on-mountain dining and drinking. This place makes its' neighbours {Davos, Klosters and Arosa} all look a little lame.....
