I just spent a day here. This is another Swiss secret. Firstly, as it is very high the snow is perfect. Secondly, its car free. Thirdly, it faces the sun and fourthly, the views are stupendous. Pistes are varied, great grooming and a car free village. Locals are very helpful and friendly. With COVID the restaurants were shut but they looked thoroughly inviting. This is one of the best kept secrets in Switzerland. Go try it.

Enjoyed a 3 day ski trip to Bettmeralp (Bettmeralp - Aletsch) during Jan 2015. Fantastic snow conditions, excellent grooming and snowmaking. The village is car free and peaceful, with lots of ski in-ski out chalets and hotels. Fast lifts and plenty of varied skiing. Stunning scenery and views of the Aletsch glacier (largest in Europe). Would recommend for a short break.

I went to Bettmeralp in April last year(2005). It was a fantastic resort, real local feel and I liked the fact it was a car free village. The village itself has a lot of charm being 2000m above the valley of Brig. If it's not snowing you get an amazing view of the valley below and esp at night with all the lights and stuff. The skiing is limited for advance skiers like myself but the lifts are fast and there are a few off-piste opps. The ski runs are best suited for intermediates with there being lots of reds. The snow is always good being so high up, and even now (late May) when I check the webcams there's still plenty on the slopes. The bars and restaraunts are great and have a local feel to them, and overall it's a great place for a weekend visit because of the ease of getting there! I will be returning sometime after my season in Cardrona(NZ)and Whistler(Canada)in the coming Summer and Winter ski seasons. Tom Pryor- Student and Ski instructor to be this Summer.
