Very good resort overall. Great for adventurous skiers or riders at a more advanced level when the top lifts are open with great access to the slack country/off-piste sections. But also very family friendly with a good selection of mellow and easy runs and variety of lifts at bottom. The main problem I see with this resort is it lacks a gondola which I think would dramatically improve the speed of the uplift from the base. The bottom chairs cater to beginners for the blue slopes so this means lifts can feel quite slow, especially the one nearest the cafe on the right side. I have read some reviews and feel the complainants are being unfair. I would understand if this was a big world renown international resort lacking important features but as a local hill I think it offers more than enough terrain, facilities and options for the price. Alto Campoo is very reasonably priced for a ski resort. Accommodation options nearby are good value; the hotel for 42 Euros per night includes ski pass and dinner. I think it would be hard to find this value for a hotel near a slope anywhere in the world. Also, a bus goes from hotel to ski resort for free. There is also a youth hostel directly opposite which is very cheap: around 8 Euros a night including breakfasts and dinner and offers the basics but again a great option on a budget and the hotel facilities and cafe are still open to the public. The cafe restaurants are not inflated like many ski resorts. I would expect to pay 4 or 5 times the price for food and drink in places like the Alps. This, I feel, makes it a great option for families wishing to stay a few days and experience the snow. The other downside is the resort can be difficult to reach without a car. I think the resort is missing an important thing here for tourists. If the nearby town Reinosa or Santander had a transfer bus I think it would dramatically increase the number of people who visit the area. Many people travel without cars to ski resorts as transfers are a hassle-free option. A taxi from Reinosa will cost 30 Euros one way so this is probably about normal price for a transfer to a ski resort anyway but still it takes a bit more effort than a transfer direct. The coach from Santander to Reinosa takes around 1hr 30 mins, taxi 20 minutes from Reinosa which can be ordered from the bus station. Overall, definitely recommend. Snow conditions are great, resort is fairly quiet midweek so no lines and plenty of fresh tracks. People will always complain and compare to other places but if you can just accept the differences and enjoy the day out it’s a really nice little resort for a visit.
