We've been crashing around the Megeve pistes for about 25 years. Huge ski area with something for everyone (& expanding with La Giettaz opening up from Jaillet a couple of seasons back and rumour of a link over to Contamine from Mont Joly in the offing ...)
We stay up the mountain in La Belle Etoile in Bettex. Ski to and from the hotel boot room with easy access to all areas of St Gervais, Megeve, St Nicolas, Mt Joly, Rochebrune, Cote 2000, Jaillet and, now, Giettaz. If you've got stamina it is possible to traverse the lot in one day.
No nightlife up there, apart from what you make yourself (which is infinitely more enjoyable!)
This is a skiers resort. Up with the first lift, down with the last. Lunch at La Radaz or L'Alpette having sampled the delights of Petite Fontaine and Lanchettes. Last beer at La Boitet after a final crash down Princesse Noire.
Having been ushered off the slopes at the end of one day by the pisteurs, (having caught the very last lift to the top of the mountain and descending on a deserted piste in semi-darkness), I once came upon two Chamois standing and watching, with the top of Mt Blanc still catching the last of the peach coloured sunset in the background.
