🏔️ Midwest & East Coast: Season’s Last Gasp

Thanks to snow preservation techniques, Boyne Mountain in Michigan is pushing toward Memorial Day. On the East Coast, Killington and Jay Peak have called it a season after heavy rain, prematurely ending the East’s 24–25 ski year.

Boyne is the last resort still open east of the Rockies, despite warm temps reaching 60–70°F later this week.

Rockies: Eyeing Memorial Day—and Beyond

About six ski areas remain open in the US Rockies. Arapahoe Basin (8/56” / 20/140cm) aims to stay open into June, though parts like East Wall and West Zuma have now closed. Winter Park (56/64” / 140/160cm) will close on Sunday, May 18th.

In Utah, Solitude (12/72” / 30/180cm), Snowbird (10/96” / 25/240cm), and Brighton are operating limited terrain on weekends. Amazingly, even Arizona Snowbowl is reopening this weekend and has now extended through Memorial Day.

Rockies Forecast

Although warm and mostly sunny, the forecast shows potential for snowstorms, especially in northern regions like Montana and Wyoming. If they hit, high-elevation resorts could benefit.

West Coast: Daily Laps Continue

Roughly six ski areas remain open across California, Oregon, and Washington. In California, Mammoth (64/120” / 160/300cm) and Palisades (4/130” / 10/325cm) continue daily ops.

Donner Ski Ranch may reopen on weekends. In Oregon, Mt Bachelor (12/104” / 30/260cm) and Timberline (40/148” / 100/370cm) are still spinning lifts, as is Crystal Mountain (20/72” / 50/180cm) in Washington.

West Coast Forecast

Mostly sunny, with highs in the 40s–60°F range. A weekend cool-down may bring a few inches of new snow.

Canada: Final Weekend Approaching

Just three Canadian resorts are still running, and all are expected to close after this weekend. Sunshine (25/180cm / 10/72”) near Banff, Blackcomb (0/110cm / 0/44”), and Mont-Sainte-Sauveur (10/40cm / 4/16”) in Quebec will all host their final turns of 24–25.

Sunshine is also preparing to host its annual Slush Cup on Monday, May 19th—one of the oldest pond-skimming events in the world.

Canada Forecast

In Alberta, temperatures stay cold with overnight lows hitting -8°C and daytime highs just above freezing. Snow showers of 2–5cm/day continue through the week. In BC and Quebec, it’s warmer and rain is more likely than snow.
