USA REPORT

Four ski areas remain open in the US (or five if you include Copper Mountain's hike-to summer terrain park). This looks like the final weekend for two of them though – Colorado's Arapahoe Basin (0/40" / 0/100cm) and California's Mammoth Mountain (36/80” / 90/200cm). That's barring any last-minute "extra bonus weekend" announcements, although A-Basin has made it clear they don't think that will happen in their case.

"And Another Weekend - June 13, 14 and 15: …a second extended weekend. Black Mountain and Lenawee Express Lifts will be open from 8:30 - 2:00 each day. Woo-hoo - More Summer Skiing!!! June 15 will definitely, absolutely be closing day for the season,” a spokesperson commented.

Continuing on later into June and hopefully into July though are Oregon’s Timberline (0/90” / 0/225cm) and the Beartooth Basin summer ski area up by the Wyoming/Montana state line, which is hoping to operate through to the first week of next month if conditions allow. Timberline should go the longest, normally into August, but it has seen its base drop fast with warm temperatures now that we’re well into June.

Arapahoe Basin, USA: 5th June 2025.

Mammoth’s snow depth kind of implies it could carry on later if it wanted to; it has about 15% of its terrain still open up high, with variable conditions, of course, the best of them in the early morning. It remains open daily up to this Sunday.

The final option on snow at present, beyond earning your high-altitude turns, is at Copper Mountain, where their hike-to summer terrain park at their terrain park facility opened for its 2025 season on Friday. It will be open to the public all Fridays-Sundays, 10 AM–5 PM through the summer.

This year the Hike Park has 15 features, including a mix of rails, tubes, boxes, and a jump/hip. Day passes are $25; season pass $199.

It's been a mostly sunny week across the West, with temperatures still getting down close to freezing overnight but hitting the 60s/70s in the afternoon. There was some snow reported — a decent dump for those still backcountry touring up in Alaska.

USA FORECAST

Sunshine – non-stop in daylight hours. Overnight lows on the highest slopes getting down close to freezing, in the high 30s, but daytime highs at resort bases up well into the 60s, even 70s.
