It's Norway's national day and Norwegians are in celebratory mood, with some heading up into the mountains for a ski in national costume to celebrate.

There are currently two glacier ski areas open in the country at Stryn (for cat skiing) and Galdhøpiggen, but many skiers decided to earn their celebratory turns by skinning up their local slopes.

That's happening at Geilo, pictured, which posted on social media,

"Imagine how lucky we are to live in this beautiful country - and not least in Hol municipality, surrounded by spectacular nature, mighty mountains, clear water and fresh mountain air all year round! Whether you spend the day at Halne and take the train up to Halnekollen, or you join Finse 1222 on a spectacular hike towards the Hardangerjøkulen - there is a celebration for every taste. However you choose to celebrate - on skis, on foot or in the finest - we wish you a brilliant 17 May! Hurrah for the day, nature and everyone who makes Norway what it is."
