- Scandinavia prepares to restart with Galdhopiggen reopening soon.
- Snowfarming ensures Levi and Ruka’s October kick-off.
Alps
Fresh snowfall returned to higher elevations last weekend, marking a second notable accumulation in seven days. While summer snow at altitude is not unusual, it stirs anticipation for winter.
Austria’s Pitztal Glacier is preparing to open for the 2025–26 season in just over a fortnight, while Sölden may start as early as 25 September. Italy’s Sulden has also reported new snow.

Currently, only Saas Fee (0/140cm / 0/52”), Zermatt (0/120cm / 0/48”), and Italy’s Passo Stelvio (0/70cm / 0/28”) remain open. Austria’s Hintertux Glacier suspended operations last month, with reopening expected later this month.
Forecast
A cooler, unsettled pattern lingers through Friday, bringing light snow showers above 3,000m. Zermatt and Saas Fee may see up to 10cm (4"). Freezing levels hover near 3,100m midweek before dipping slightly Saturday.

Scandinavia
No centres are currently open, but Norway’s Galdhopiggen Glacier plans to reopen the weekend after next. In Finland, Levi and Ruka are preparing to spread their preserved snow for early October starts.

Forecast
Norway may see 2cm (1") of new snow midweek, with temperatures dipping to –7°C and wind chills of –12°C. Finland remains dry but chilly, with lows of –5°C and highs near 8°C.
