Canada’s First 8 Seat Chairlift Heading to Ontario

Ontario’s Mount St. Louis Moonstone says it will install Canada’s first 8 seat chairlift this coming summer, built by Doppelmayr Canada, and will feature the company’s Direct Drive technology for maximum comfort, safety and efficiency. The lift will also have the highest uplift capacity of any North American ski lift.

Mount St. Louis Moonstone’s Operations Director Andre Huter says, “The lift will be like no other chairlift in North America with a special L shape drive terminal”. The lift will start from the Moonstone base lodge and travel to the highest elevation.

Although 8-seat chairlifts have been around for some three decades now, the first of this type of lift are still appearing in countries where the kind of uplift capacity they require is rarely required.  The US only saw their first eight-seat chairlift installed in 2018.

Christened The Adventure8, the new high-speed lift will have the highest capacity of any lift in North America, with the ability to move 4250 people per hour. The lift will features heated seats, manual lock child friendly safety bars with footrests and a rise-able loading carpet for young skiers and riders. It will replace the resort’s existing Adventure Express lift.

General Manager Robert Huter says, “My family remains dedicated to providing the finest skiing and snowboarding experience in Ontario. This advancement helps guests spend more time on the slopes and less time waiting in a lift line.”

Mount St. Louis Moonstone is one of the largest family owned and operated ski resorts in Canada. It was founded in 1964 by Austrian Alpine skier Josl Huter. Today, it contains 36 different ski slopes in addition to eight chairlifts and four magic carpets.
