Aussie Ski Area Re-opening For First Time Since 2019

Selwyn Ski Area will reopen on Friday, almost four years after it last operated its ski lifts and slopes.

The ski area in New South Wales saw its lifts and base buildings destroyed in a devastating bush fire in January 2020, leading to a multi-year rebuild through the worst years of the pandemic.

The resort was about to re-open last winter, but the finishing touches of construction work were thwarted by heavy early snowfall in late May and June 2022.

“If we can get through something as devastating as the bushfires destroying our beloved Selwyn, we can stand through all trials. Thank you to the incredibly hard-working teams continuing to rebuild Selwyn and to our tight-knit community who continues to band together,” Angela Murdoch, Selwyn’s General Manager said at the time.

Ready to open this winter, the problem has instead been too little snowfall for what should have been the first week of the season last week, but now the snow as started falling, temperatures have dropped, and the resort has announced it will start the ski lifts turning on Friday.
