I love Villars for its family appeal. It worries me, however, that people find it amusing to hurtle down the slopes fuelled by the local brew. We live here and worry for our little ones and this irresponsible attitude prevails seemingly amongst Brits. Wake up. If your little one was hurt I don't think you would have this bravado.
Many an enjoyable holiday enjoyed here at Villars flying down the slopes out of control fuelled by the local brew, Ollon. We have been at it 10 years and there's no better place to catch up with some fellow English lunatics. Hope that puts you off going to France.
When it's high season Villars does get crowded due to the small number of slopes and it's low altitude. However, aside of the few weeks a year when it's crowded, Villars offers majestic skiing. During most mid week days, you would be pushed to see 10 people on the same run and you would often be alone.
Over the years Villars has been getting more crowded in the busier weeks, and at weekends a lot of day trade arrives from locals, but that's because they know the best place to go.
Unfortunately the snow was lacking quite a bit in early Jan of 07 but still a fun location with very nice people and the views were amazing! You may even run into an ex Formula 1 driver. Best to ski at Les Diablerets if you want a challenge. Hope I can get back. Still it makes me a proud Canadian with Whistler not too far away from my NYC digs.
As long as we can keep Global Warming at bay Villars should be OK!!.
Have bought in Villars as it's a very good family friendly resort, skiing might not compare to Whistler, Aspen, Zermatt, Val d'Isere and many other resorts I have skied, so why buy there or visit you might ask ? Because Villars has great intermediate skiing and is a very family friendly resort both on and off the slopes, especially for younger kids. You can spend a few days here and if you really feel the need to hit the black runs you are only 40 minutes from the likes of Verbier; an easy day trip. It's also great in the summer with mountain biking, golf and walking. I thoroughly recommend the place, although honestly, advanced skiers will get a little bored if you stay on piste.

Meyer family,
from
United Kingdom
Have had an apartment in Villars for over 10 years now. We have found that we could not of had a better time anywhere else. With its extremely friendly people and lovely scenery. Me and my family are all experienced skiers now and even though Villars doesn't have the most challenging runs you can venture out and explore. I have introduced many people to Villar and they have all loved it. You wouldn't think it but Villar's night life is pretty good if you hit the night club, and not forgetting Murpheys bar (great place).
So, overall, Villars is a great family resort and an amazing holiday.
I hope many people visit.
We bought here in 2003, and love the place, and would tend to agree with most comments submitted by previous subscribers, but would add the following:-
This is not a place for adventurous skiing. In my 20's and 30's I spent a lot of time in the higher, better known resorts, and bought here in my 40's for myself and my family. It is perfect for my aging bones, but for my children, both teenagers and good skiers, the skiing has become unchallenging.
Secondly, there has been a huge amount of building recently without sufficient investment in the skiing and transportation (apart from the new Roc d'Orsy bubble). When the new Royalp complex opens in 2008, the poor little railway station of Rochgrise will be worse than Victoria station in rush hour...and we come here precisely to get away from that sort of thing.
Lastly, I can't believe the prices of these new apartments. Over a million pounds for a three bedroom pad, in a low lying, overcrowded ski resort with a poor snow record, and a five minute drive from centrville.
Having skied in Villars for the last five years I would agree with all the positive points other people have made, but where people are moaning about the amount of skiers on the piste, I would say that it is certainly no worse than other resorts we have skied at during half term - that is the nature of school holidays. If you don't like busy pistes then go at other times. Also, in our experience the truly inconsiderate skiers were not English speakers, more those who knew the pistes extremely well and who had no time for those less experienced than themselves. One example would be a skier who came past us on a very narrow section at an incredible speed only to plough headlong into a couple of boarders who had crashed just around the next corner. Would you drive round a blind corner on a single track road at fifty miles an hour - I think not. However, I don't think Villars has any more inconsiderate skiers than anywhere else, probably less in fact as it is predominantly a family resort. We love it so much we have bought an apartment there - says it all I think.
Have skied in Villars every year since '64 for an average of three weeks a year and was a ski guide and instructor there in '80.
Have seen the resort change out of all recognition and have always marvelled at the amount of building and how the slopes have managed to cope with the extra skiers. Was there in Feb this year and the amount of new building is phenomenal. However, there are now signs that they have overdone it and certainly at peak times they just don't have the pistes or the snow cannons to cater for all the people. Still a great resort off-peak and really pretty. Still have little idea of customer service.
