Having just returned from sestriere, and lot's of snow it was disapointing to have a number of lift's closed for reasons of wind during the week day's but all open on the weekend!the link with Sauze was closed for most of the week, and it's misleading to call Mongernerve part of the same lift pass when you have to pay 15 euro's per day to ski there.Sansicario was open all lifts all week a real treat.Big ski areas need to be more customer focussed during off peak times!!

I,ve booked to take group of children to Hotel du col 18th Jan, so did a recon week 14 Dec.we stayed in the Argento hotel in Borgatta. Despite there being plenty of access to Sestriere and Souze, because it was 1st week of season there was,nt any transport, so this was no good for complete beginners, who could not ski back to the resort. There was only one bar, that was closed except for one night, and one restaurant and one pizza place, but if you just want good skiing and limited apres ski, then Borgatta is great. However, I,m looking forward to returning to sestriere, our hotel is in a fab location, and if the conditions are like Dec, then we,re in for a great time. The are some lovely long wide runs to Sauze, the sun was shining and the powder snow made the experience one to remember, hopefully,a bit into the season the atmosphere will be more lively as it was a bit too quiet in Dec, but I have,nt ever been that early before, anyway, the sun and snow made it well worth while!!

I've been to Sestriere twice now and loved every minute of it - the snow never let us down and the instructors are brilliant! If you want a laugh listen out for the 'slope sniffers' - some of the young males ... you could write a book on chat-up lines for just one week there ! The snow is just about guaranteed, the range of runs fun and with so much distance to cover any intermediate would certainly not get bored. I'd say a good, all round resort, fun and not too ugly unlike some places in France (Le Menuires - urgh !). If you're wanting a club, then the only club is Tabata - get there early to secure a good plot as you'll find the locals pack the place out and the queues go round the block. It's the only late place open. Don't get stuck like we did by not having a taxi ordered to take us back to the hotel ... a commando crawl, across piste, in the freezing cold, moonlit night was had by all - sobered us up though ;-)) Enjoy !
