Selwyn (Selwyn Snowfields) has improved considerably in recent years with better snow, snow making and grooming. The Hydro Electricity Authority has been cloud seeding in recent years which has greatly improved the snow cover.
It is a great place for families (kids can't get lost) and is much cheaper than the main range resorts.
Selwyn is a reasonably good ski resort. Although it is the last place to get snow and the first place to lose it, the skiing in between is great. Selwyn is more of a family resort, and so specializes in beginner and intermediate runs. For people looking to pull some harder moves, then trying elsewhere is a good idea. Selwyn is well priced, and can be very enjoyable. All up it's a good place to go ;]
Selwyn's a day trip resort for those who live within a couple of hours drive. Alot of snow is man made and often has hard icy surfaces. Apart from that its good to learn at, (if you can ride on ice you can ride on anything) youll never get lost, you start at the top and ride to a lift rather than getting on a lift first. you can also finnish your day by riding back to the start from the summit.
