Spent 3 days and stayed in resort hotel. Accommodation was 1st class but restaurants were expensive with limited choice (saved by a supermarket across the road). Lack of vertical height compared to Niseko was made up by better runs and no crowds. Lot's of powder even in first week of season. Also, lots of activities for the kids. Bus trip from Sapporo was 2 hours (1/2 hour less than to Niseko) and several staff spoke English. Highly recommended.
Just spent 9 days at Rusutsu & 9 days at Niseko.
I have to say I prefered Rusutsu. Although not as much vertical, fresh tracks all day, every day through the trees and very few westerners which makes the resort & culture more enjoyable.
I can recommend staying at the Pension Lila Husset.
An interesing run was cutting out to low and having to kick out through the amusement park (closed in winter) very surreal!!
