Meadows is easily the best place to snowboard/ski around. I usually go on weekdays and it's ten times better than weekends. So the time to go is during the week like Tues, Weds or Thurs. If you get up there early on any of those days you can count on a good day of riding. Sometimes I leave before noon those days because I'm already tired because I rode a lot.
What nobody mentions is you have to ride 3 lifts to do the "heather canyon laps". But that's only possible if Cascade is open, and it only opens if there has been 2 straight days of good weather. Then, if there's "too much snow" ski patrol shuts it down (so they can ride it themselves). And good luck getting a fresh line anywhere after 10:30am, the place is tracked-out top to bottom. The park system is haphazard with no continuity whatsoever, not nearly enough jumps. You have to ride miles of bumpy groom in order to do short park runs - just awful. The park crew keeps the pipe closed until they feel like riding it, so if you can only ride half a day just forget it. Nice hills, but insanely overcrowded and very poorly designed and managed. I do have high standards, but I am always disappointed by meadows, every time.
The Meadows gets more snow and has more interesting terrain than 90% of the ski areas in North America. Well - I've only skied about 22 areas - but I dream a lot - but the Meadows has it all: long, wide, sweet green and blue runs for the beginners and intermediates, and lots of challenging off-piste powder, and spring corn for advanced and expert skiers and riders. What it does NOT have is very reliable grooming. With so much snow - (more than 600 inches so far this year) it is not unusual to arrive early and find there are NO groomed trails at all - even in the beginner areas. The grooming crew works through the night but usually finish several hours before the lifts open and by then, the winds and heavy snowfall can often deposit 4 to 10 inches on top of groomed runs. That's great for guys like me but terrible for beginners and groomer addicted speedsters on race/slalom boards. It is a situation that should NOT be permitted to exist and the management should re-groom several green runs and all beginner teaching areas and their primary learning areas just before opening time, when snow falls. Every other resort I have skied does this.
What a place. Visited in Jan 03 and returned in Mar 03, both times had loads of fresh snow. Found the terrain great for boarding. Heather Canyon was unreal. I was the only Brit there and found the hard work for traveling and accommodation was worth it. I had a 30 mile hitchhike to get there!. So if you're not from Oregon don't bother visiting this place. Leave it for the locals and me!!!!

Meadows is sweet! Bad news this year though :-( the road to Meadows from one side has been washed away by low elevation rain. The resort gets lots of snow and has a wide variety of terrain, big parks, and Heather Canyon is the best, especially in the powder!
Meadows is one of my favorite ski hills in the north west. It gets huge amounts of snow. Even last year, a warm-ish year, there was plenty of new snow to be had. The bowls off to the right of the My Hood Express are excellent in good conditions. And Heather Canyon is steep, wide open and long, with numerous lines to be found. Just find a way in that suits your steepness level (there's ceratinly some steep pitches), ride wherever looks good. When The Cascade Express is open and the snow is deep, laps of Heather Canyon are hard to beat.
