The weather at Mt Hood Meadows is what it is, just ride. Coming from OH where the nearest hill had 300ft of vert I love MHM. Of course you can't compare it to Utah or Colorado, but you also can't ride those place and be home in time for the Simpsons. Foods expensive, staff - great.

Lets face it. Mount Hood Meadows isn't that great for a number of reasons. Folks who claim it's great, probably haven't ridden anywhere decent. I've been snowboarding all over the world since '93 & Meadows is near the bottom of my list. In fact, after holding a season pass there for 4 years, I gave up on Meadows, got a snowmobile.... & never looked back. Here's a list of the things I don''t have to deal with any more: Crowds, Retarded parking lot 'attendants', Traffic, Petty authoritarian ski patrol BS, rushing to get first chair, Gapers, People who can't get on the lift or mysteriously fall off the lift while loading, the lift being closed or stopped regularly, lame lodge, lame food, lame music. The worst bit: you get 45 min (if that) to get your turns on a powder day - then it's over. It's like an alpine version of the DMV. Now... given Meadows proximity to Portland it's probably the best option most days. You just don't have much choice. The Meadows management know this & treat you accordingly. There is no need to hire good staff or run the resort well or make a real effort. They have a captive audience & the place is over crowded already. It'll only get worse.

After I read a couple of these comments. I was reminded at how much people can complain about the most pointless grievances with the resort and it's management. Meadows is Oregon cascade's snow and terrain at it's best. Ski Bowl has some great steeps as well. If you know the mountain, you can ride pow all day at Meadows on powder days. If you are use to a world class resort and are hold those expectations for Meadows, you will be sorely disappointed. It's a middle of the road resort. Now go ride some pow fool!

James, you are wrong. You can access Heather canyon from just the Heather chair, it's a traverse called the "Ho Chi Minh Trail." If you're in the "know," you can ski powder all day on a powder day, especially the weekdays. I'm not going to tell you where, though ;) If you don't like MHM, go to Timberline or Bachelor, or get rained on at Skibowl.

Mt. Hood Meadows. What to say, what to say? Well to start with if you live here and like to ski and can't afford to go to a real resort it's definitely the best thing going on Mt. Hood. That being said the lists of not so good to out and out crappy things about Mt. Hood in general and Meadows specifically is long. To start with the patrol on the slopes of Meadows are like the SS or more to the point the corporate police who are in charge of safety, safety, safety, and did I mention safety? They really are a bit much and I’m in my fifties so it’s not like I am some kind of maniac ignoring all common sense. Next lift operations are run with the same paranoia that the safety patrol patrols with. If it blows a bit -- shut em down, a bit of ice forms shut em down, lots of new snow; delay, delay, delay. Upper lifts are compromised nearly daily in one-way or another. I have never seen that at any other resort. Staff for the most part in a word suck. You feel like you are dealing with government workers. The problem is simple the staff basically are young people who want to ski and hate having to do anything that isn’t skiing. As long as you know that, you won’t be to surprised by their lack of motivation to do anything other than ski. The weather and snow conditions however are the absolute biggest problem with Mt. Hood Meadows. Been skiing there for 4 years and never seen real powder. In fact I would say if you only ski resorts on Mt. Hood you don’t know what real powder is. I have never seen such heavy snow conditions and so much rain at a ski resort. If you are looking for deep dry powder never, and I mean never, go to Mt Hood. If groomers are your thing you will like Mt Hood and Meadows. If you want dry light powder that pills up in front of you like a never-ending pillow for an epic session of hero skiing go east to Utah, Wyoming, or Colorado

Amazing terrain at Mt Hood Meadows. Definitely the best in Oregon but some of the worst personnel I have ever encountered. you really get the feeling that the people who work and run the resort are all about the money and not about the guests or the experience. Also they have crappy parks

We love Mt Hood Meadows resort - it has terrain for all of us. My kids are learning skiing here and actually enjoying it. The resort is really family oriented, the staff are responsible and caring. You can't expect to have untouched slopes from the resort which is just 1.5h away from major metro area but if you know the mountain well enough you will have nice cream on top of that nicely brewed coffee :) MHM (Mt Hood Meadows)is not perfect - grooming can be better, the lodge is crowded at lunch time hinting for some expansion and shuttles need external baskets for equipment (these school buses are not too comfortable to climb into with ski or board). But considering all the positive sides (lots of mountain which are affordable and not going to bust the wallet) - solid 4 star rating.

Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) is the best Mt around when it's snowing and if you don't have fun there don't come back. It gets busy some times! Love to all the people at Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) who are having fun.

Mt Hood Meadows dwarfs the other areas on Mt Hood in terms of acres and number of guests. Some people like it, some don't. It's owned by a corporation and it's run like one. Others are run like a family business. Some people prefer that. I'll take Meadows. Their lodge, facilities, and equipment are way nicer. Especially nicer than Skibowl. That place is falling apart. How about some new lifts huh? Timberline is OK but it's for intermediates except for the parks. It's true Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) patrol doesn't take any crap and they're everywhere but I kinda like that. When things go really, really bad and you need them they are awesome, I speak from experience. Some people don't like following rules. Those are the ones that get thrown out. The ones that apologize and have good attitudes don't. Again some like it, some don't.

Mt Hood Meadows is, hands down, the best skiing on Mt Hood. I believe it is run poorly with overkill on safety. I've heard many stories about people getting their passes pulled on questionable grounds. There shouldn't be safety zones with slope police. If they're so concerned about safety, limit resort capacity. That is the only time things get unsafe. I don't like the attitude if you ski within 10 feet of the ski patrol they give you a speech on safety when you've got 20 more years under you're belt at this sport. I think I'll get the fusion this year and go for the spring pass in February and ski the whole mountain at Mt Hood Meadows for 550$.
