I noticed many of the reviewers who don't like Mt Hood Meadows are snowboarders. Maybe it would be better if you just stayed away from Meadows. Long ride-outs, ice patches and broken powder don't bother people who ski. There's no point in you being at Hood (Mt Hood Meadows) in the first place.
Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) is definitly not without fault. Overactive ski patrol, often questionable Pacifc Northwest weather, limited night operations, bad crowding at times especially weekends and holidays. But what do you expect, it's not a dry region, it's an hour and a half from the biggest city in the state and it's not an exceptionaly large resort. If you want more of a destination resort, with better snow in Oregon, go to Mt Bachelor. It's twice as far away and more expensive.
But for all you guys that think Hood (Mt Hood Meadows) is a "bad place to have fun" well, you simply don't love your sport enough to justify cloging the runs at Meadows, so please stay home.
Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) is an average mountain resort at best. It is pretty much a commuter resort for Portland. Weekends, holidays and good snow days (widely broadcast on Portland TV stations) are packed. Any storm where there is more than 6"of snow usually shuts down the top of the mountain and Heather Canyon resulting in a "Who Concert" experience on the lower lifts. There can also be days where busloads of "group tours" are emptied on to the slopes.
Heather Canyon is a five minute traverse, a thirty second drop and a five minute runout to the Heather lift. Private Reserve is fun when it's open but you have to hike back to the HRM lift for a two lift ride back to the access gates.
Night skiing/boarding is limited to two meager beginner runs and are usually packed with busloads of school kids.
Powder days last 30 minutes before the entire resort is tracked up so they've started doing more grooming to try and get people up there on days where there is no fresh snow. Like everywhere else, it does have it's good days at Mt Hood Meadows depending on what the weather is like.

People who don't like Mt Hood Meadows are not giving it a fair chance, and those that do are well rewarded for their efforts. It's a beautiful mountain with many different moods and if you have some guts you can enjoy them all. Having worked there in the past we might be a bit biased especially since it was during the 07-08 winter, where the powder was seemingly endless and much drier than is the norm around here. If you don't know a local you will miss out on a lot of hidden runs, some in plain view of the lifts - but I don't want to give anything away. If you go to Meadows expecting Whistler or Jackson Hole, you're sure not going to get it. But if you go with patience and appreciation more than three times a year (which I'm sure is more than a lot of people) you'll get way more in return. If you are complaining about Meadows, then maybe snowboarding/skiing is not for you. Maybe you're better off playing Amped... or Shawn White..... I hear the terrain is great there.....and the crowds are non existent...

I just read a string of posts that said you needed to ride at least two lifts to access lower Heathers( Jack's Woods, SRS, etc). This is not true. For those of us who love lower Heathers, even on moderate days we do the 2 minute traverse directly to skiers right after de-chairing at the top of Heather Canyon Lift. Anyone who knows this will cut the traverse first thing in the morning and, once established, it's a breeze. I've spent many a day poaching fresh lines from upper Jack's down to SRS over and over and over. It's just another little trick about Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) that makes it a wonderful place to ski.
Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) is a great place. Is it a destination resort? No. However, it's close to town, gets plentiful snow and has some awesome terrain as long as you are willing to work for it.
For all the whiners, just remove the stick from your @$$ and have some fun!
Lift operators need to be nicer at Mt Hood Meadows. I love Meadows but the attitude has got to go. They are the only resort in the world that gets pissed at single riders when there arn't any lines.
Rode in the south-east for a decadeand been to Breck, Keystone and Loveland Pass. Riding for close to 20 years. Pipe, park, rails, powder, trees, rain, ice, epic 3 ft dump days...logged over 130 days on the hill multiple years. I've seen people die on the hill, first time seeing snow, inner city youths up for a day, rednecks putting you on two seater lifts for 30o yards of snow. All I have to say is this: most of you don't know how good you have it. Every resort has somethings to hate. Be glad you are here and have MT Hood (Mt Hood Meadows) in your backyard. Meadows has fun terrain, decent lifts, and ok parks...most of the country/world do not.
This is a message to all the haters.
Do us all a favor and never come back to Meadows. If you are stuck up enough to hate on something that is a priviledge most people can't afford, then go do it at one of your big fancy resorts and leave the powder to people who work for it and all the while have a huge grin on their face. Love the sport, don't hate.
I live in Portland and I've had a full ski pass at Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) for the past 10 years. I also ski 3 or 4 other resorts in and out of Oregon each year. A full season adult pass at Meadows cost me only $400 this year and that's a great deal given that I ski at Meadows 30+ days per year.
Certainly there are lots of things that Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) could improve on, including their backcountry access policies, but overall, it's a great ski resort to have in my back yard.
And, as for Heather Canyon, it is frustrating how it's often not open on primo days, but I just skiied there yesterday. A foot of new powder, Heather was open, and so was Private Reserve, and the skiing was fantastic.
