I love all the negative comments about snowboarders. Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) is a great place to ski with self impressed skiers/riders like the ones posting here. I ski/board and have been cut-off, hit and taken out by just as many skiers as boarders at Meadows. I will agree with some here that Meadows is filled with lots of small stashes that will hold snow for days but are usually less than 500' vertical at a clip. The only place on Hood that has a sustained steep 800' vertical is Skibowl.

Last time I checked ski resorts weren't day care centers. If you can't hack the terrain, stay home! Or you can just use your trust fund to fly around the world chasing the freshest pow around! For the rest of us living in the real world we know it's not the best but it's what we got! Be thankful you have the priviledge to enjoy the mountain (Mt Hood Meadows)! I have. Never been treated rudely or disrespectfully by any employees or ski patrol who only have your best interests in mind! I love having fun on the mountain but really hate the whining babies who have nothing better to do than bash on a resort for conditions they have no control over! So stay home! So me and everyone else can go on having a good time! To everyone having a good time - keep having a blast! Thanks!!!

I am tired of people bashing Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows). If you don't like it, don't go. Plain and simple. Then those of us who really love it don't have to hear you complain year after year about how lame it is.

A group of 9 of us are heading to Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) in 2 weeks and really looking forward to it. We're excited as hell to check out this mountain, but looking at the weather report, not sure if we'll be getting any fresh snow...we'll see. Any tips on parts of the mountain to hit up when there isn't a fresh dump? Either way, I'm cracking up at all of these negative comments and snowboarder this, snowboarder that. People, please. Just go out there, have some fun and treat your fellow skier/snowboarder with the same respect you want and deserve. It's an experience we all can enjoy together. Looking forward to posting something after our trip! wwwDOTpowderstacheDOTcom

Reading all of these comments reminds me of why I dislike a lot of people around these parts...because you're all wrong. To all people with the negative comments...just stay home and I'll happily take all the extra fresh tracks that you're not getting. To all the people that complained about the terrain about Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows)...you're my favorite! Just stay riding where you ride, and I'll ride all the stashes, and keep getting fresh tracks on all the dozens of hidden steep sections, and cool tree lines. To all the people that know what I'm talkin about, I'll see you in line at 830 am. Ski Patrol..good job getting everything open right away this year, you rock.

I ski Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) at least 50 times a season. I have never had patrol give me a safety lecture and if you ski and ride responsibly, you will never see the patrol unless you need them. The comments about patrol being unreasonable are soooo out of line. I have been knocked down a half dozen times in the last 4 years, always by a snow boarder between ages 15 and 25 (mostly upper teens) and always male with an attitude. They somehow believe that skiers have eyes in the backs of their heads and that they have the right of way to their "line" and it is up to a skier below them not to turn to the right or left when they pass within a few yards at high speed. These young men create a real danger to every other person on the mountain, and when they are caught by patrol they can and do get their passes pulled. Then they come on this site and complain and whine. In the last two years safety has gotten much better at Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows), and I say hurray to managements concentration on safety and the patrols' hard work!

Reading the comments on MHM (Mt Hood Meadows) makes me chuckle. On the weekend, particularly Saturday, the main parking lot is at capacity by opening. The reason... MHM is the best ski destination in the Mount Hood area. It is certainly the most popular. They move more people up the mountain with 5 high speed quads and cover the most area and most varied terrain than the other options. They have at least 5 terrain parks and 2 half-pipes during peak season. The comments about Heather Canyon are laughable. Heather Canyon is a backcountry experience with a chairlift out of the bottom to bring you out. You are subject to the conditions that nature provides. It is not a Disney experience as if MHM (Mt Hood Meadows) can provide snow conditions. On peak condition days you are able to access the canyon as well as Clark Canyon which is connected, by several gates from about the 7000' level to as low as the base of the Shooting Star lift which is probably about 5500'. It is a thrilling experience if you have never been there before. There are several dining options and live entertainment on the weekends. Yes, you can expect higher prices as everything is more expensive at resorts. I bring my own food and save my money for other things. MHM has doubled the Safety Host staff in the last year in an effort to encourage safer riding conditions and a better experience for all guests. For this Ski Patrol and MHM (Mt Hood Meadows) staff are verbally smacked around by the jerks who insist on bombing down the hills and through the slow zones as if they were the only ones in the park. If you do not like crowds or long lines, don't ski on weekends, DUUH.

Many of the comments here reflect the rude and possessive attitude of the Portland "locals". It is all of you big city "alpine experts" who come to Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) with your "weekend warrior" mentality that are the cause of most of the bad aspects of the MHM experience. You are the ones who should stay home.

Meadows (Mt Hood Meadows) is a great ski area, all things considered. Other than the low quality fast food ( they still fry in trans fat), the management does a great job. Seems like less grooming in recent years, I suppose it's the "green" thing to do. They sunk money first in good lifts, remember when all we had was blue chair!! Hopefully, we will see improved lodge facilities one day. The risk to small kids and slow skiers is out of control. These boneheads that ride too fast in congested areas and lack the skill to avoid those down hill "in the way" must be dealt with. I suggest vigilante groups who will stop these idiots, remove their skis or boards leaving them to walk down and hopefully, leave the area. I saw a small child wiped out by one of these idiots and removed by toboggan. Lets meet at the top of express this Sat at 10A. I will have purple tape on my poles. Then lets do some of our own patrolling so we can rid the mountain of this risk. Happy riding the snow is great.

The only thing I dislike about MHM (Mt Hood Meadows) is the very expensive food and beverage pricing. An alternative, and one of the best kept secrets in the area...is the Mt Hood Country Store on Hwy 35 on the way up to MHM. The deli is fantastic, freshly made lunch to go, espresso, and breakfast. They also have micro brews ON TAP! Otherwise, MHM is THE place to ski in Oregon. Spring pricing has just started and is a great deal.
